The Ferrari Luce has sold for $40 million at a California charity auction, setting a record for the highest price ever paid at auction for a new vehicle. Apparently, even an electric Ferrari can make plenty of noise when the bidding starts.
RM Sotheby’s handled the sale of the custom-built car, which is the first production example of Ferrari’s first fully electric model. The winning bid came in at more than 35 times the Luce’s standard price.
What made the record-setting Ferrari unique?
The unnamed buyer will receive a one-off version of the five-seat electric vehicle, finished in a distinctive white paint scheme. Ferrari also fitted the car with special wheels, customized brakes and other bespoke components created specifically for this example.
Every dollar from the $40 million sale will go to the Ferrari Foundation, which plans to use the money for its educational programs.
The result comfortably surpassed the previous record for a new car sold at auction. In 2025, a bespoke Ferrari Daytona SP3 fetched $26 million at another charity sale. Proceeds from that auction also supported the company’s education initiatives.
