Susanna Reid’s Ibiza Trip Bends Her Sober Rule

CelebritySusanna Reid’s Ibiza Trip Bends Her Sober Rule

Susanna Reid’s Ibiza trip included beach clubs, swimsuit photos, DJ sets and a rare encounter with tequila. The Good Morning Britain presenter, who largely stopped drinking in 2018, said she had “one or two” Paloma cocktails while holidaying with her three sons.

Reid, 55, visited the Spanish island with Sam, 24, Finn, 21, and Jack, 20. They spent time at O Beach, where she watched sets by Fatboy Slim and Calvin Harris before making an admirably sensible exit at about 8pm. Her sons continued to the nightclubs while she returned to the hotel.

“I have a drink at O Beach, but very, very steady,” she told The Mirror. “I don’t go mad.” Ibiza has survived the disturbance.

How strict is Susanna Reid’s alcohol rule?

Reid described herself as someone who generally does not drink and said she allows herself one day for alcohol. Her preferred exception is a Paloma, made with tequila and grapefruit.

That account is stricter than descriptions she has given elsewhere. In a May 2025 interview with Woman & Home, Reid said she drank around once every couple of months. Her examples included Buck’s Fizz at Christmas, champagne for her mother’s birthday and drinks during previous visits to Ibiza. In January 2024, The Standard described her as “99.9 per cent alcohol free.”

So “teetotal” is not quite the precise label, even if it makes for a tidier headline. Reid appears to follow an overwhelmingly alcohol-free routine with occasional planned exceptions, rather than absolute abstinence.

She stopped drinking regularly in 2018. British GQ reported that the decision followed a heavy Ibiza trip with Judge Rinder, after which she discussed experiencing “hangxiety.” Reid later credited cutting back with weight loss, clearer skin and improved mental health.

On Good Morning Britain in 2024, she said a doctor had advised her to stop drinking because it was affecting her skin. Alcohol, she explained, left her flushed and contributed to breakouts. In 2019, she also said the change helped her lose weight and “feel fantastic.”

Why did the Ibiza photos become an awards campaign?

The holiday content doubled as promotion for Good Morning Britain, because apparently even a beach club now requires a campaign strategy.

At O Beach, dancers held up letters spelling “Vote GMB” after the ITV programme reached the daytime shortlist at the 2026 National Television Awards. Reid shared the display on social media alongside pictures from the holiday, including swimsuit photographs that attracted widespread attention. One later report said her Instagram post received about 10,000 likes.

The National Television Awards ceremony is scheduled for September 8 at London’s O2. Shortlist voting remains open until noon that day, with winners decided by combining votes from the longlist and shortlist stages.

This is also Good Morning Britain’s first NTA campaign since production moved to ITV News at ITN and the programme’s running time expanded in January 2026. The Ibiza display therefore served two purposes: a cheerful holiday moment and a very visible request for votes.

What did Reid say about age and swimwear?

Reid said she “didn’t feel out of place” at the beach clubs and considered herself “appropriately attired” for the setting. In her Instagram message, she urged followers not to accept claims that they were too old to wear a swimsuit or shorts.

“I loved it because I’m 55 years old, and if you’re not going to go out and enjoy yourself in a swimsuit, what are you doing in Ibiza at 55?” she said. “It was great fun.”

Her routine was not entirely devoted to cocktails and DJs. Despite regularly waking at 4am for work, Reid said she still likes to rise early on holiday for exercise or a walk along the beach. That left her sons to handle the island’s late-night shift.

Reid shares her three children with her former partner, journalist Dominic Cotton. She said viewers appeared to enjoy seeing someone usually associated with morning television relaxing away from the studio.

Why is Reid comfortable discussing ageing?

The reaction fits Reid’s broader view of getting older, particularly for women working in television. She previously told Woman & Home that women on screen were increasingly accepting and enjoying ageing rather than fighting it.

“Women, especially in television, are completely embracing ageing gracefully, which means we’re not fighting it,” she said. “We’re accepting it, welcoming it and enjoying it.”

Reid credited the Good Morning Britain styling team but said attitude also mattered. Rather than trying to resist ageing, she said she preferred to “inhabit” it and had “literally no fear of getting older.”

Her Ibiza break put that position into practical form: wear the swimsuit, have a carefully rationed Paloma, promote the television show and leave before the nightclub portion begins. Moderation, but with professional lighting.
