For Diesel, having Meadow beside him was more than a suitable photograph for an anniversary event. He said he was unsure whether he could have faced the red carpet without her.
“It means everything,” he said. “Because I don’t know if I could have come to the red carpet.” He added that “Meadow adds a grace.”
That emotional weight is hardly surprising. Paul Walker died in a car crash in November 2013 at age 40. Meadow, his daughter with Rebecca Soteros, was 15 at the time. Diesel, her godfather, remained close to her after Paul’s death and walked her down the aisle when she married Louis Thornton-Allan in 2021. Meadow and Thornton-Allan finalized their divorce in 2024.
The relationship has continued away from the cameras, although the cameras have naturally been invited to several of its major moments.
How Paul Walker’s legacy still connects them
Diesel and Meadow also appeared together at the Cannes Film Festival on May 13, 2026. During a speech inside the theater, Diesel referred to Paul as his “brother Pablo” and said Meadow had insisted he would not represent that bond alone.
“The person who was not going to let me come alone here to represent that brotherhood was Meadow Walker,” he said, before telling the audience, “I’m gonna go and shed a tear real quick.”
Meadow has repeatedly spoken about her father’s influence. On what would have been his 50th birthday in September 2023, she called him her “guardian angel” and thanked him for his “love, guidance, friendship” and for teaching her to respect others, help people and care for the planet.
Her connection to the film series became more direct in 2023 when she made a brief appearance in Fast X. The cameo did not turn her into a new street-racing specialist overnight, but it placed Paul Walker’s daughter inside the franchise that made him internationally famous.
What the bond means for Fast Forever
The family relationship now sits alongside unresolved questions about Fast Forever, the planned 11th and final mainline film. Universal Pictures has scheduled it for March 17, 2028, while the franchise’s films have collectively earned about $7.3 billion worldwide, according to Variety. Sentiment has done very well at the box office.
At the August screening, Diesel told Variety that filming could begin in December. He said the project had gone through four years of work and four sets of writers, and that the latest script made him cry. Director Louis Leterrier, however, said he had not yet read that version. A release date is firmly on the calendar, even if the screenplay appears to be moving through the production at a less orderly speed.
Diesel has previously said he wants his character, Dominic Toretto, to reunite with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner. The production has not confirmed whether that will happen or how the character would be portrayed. Brian remains alive within the story, despite Walker’s death, leaving the filmmakers with a sensitive creative and technical decision rather larger than selecting another improbable vehicle stunt.
Meadow’s work extends beyond the franchise
Meadow, now 27, also leads the Paul Walker Foundation, which supports young people working in ocean conservation and environmental fields. Its 2026 scholarship is open to Americans aged 18 to 25 pursuing conservation-related work, with applications closing on August 31.
The foundation reflects Paul’s interest in marine science and environmental protection. It is separate from Reach Out WorldWide, the disaster-response organization he founded. That group reported active earthquake and tornado relief operations during 2026.
Those projects give Meadow’s work a practical dimension beyond tributes and ceremonial appearances. Her father’s name remains attached to a global film series approaching its finale, but also to scholarships, conservation efforts and emergency relief.
Diesel’s comments at the anniversary screening placed that broader legacy back in personal terms. Meadow supports his children, calls him on Father’s Day and stands beside him when public celebrations of the franchise become difficult. For a series that has spent 25 years insisting that family is its central concern, this particular relationship appears to require no screenplay.
