Rodríguez first met Ronaldo in 2016 while working as a sales manager at a Gucci store in Madrid. They became engaged in 2025, when he proposed with a ring reportedly worth £3 million.
Who attended the private ceremony?
A marriage certificate published by Jornal de Notícias confirmed that only four witnesses attended alongside the couple’s children.
Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings Hugo Aveiro, Elma Aveiro and Katia Aveiro were not present. Reports claimed they learned about the wedding roughly 30 seconds before it happened, which is technically advance notice, if not especially generous advance notice.
Aveiro had nevertheless given the marriage her blessing. She had also previously denied reports of tension with Rodríguez. When Ronaldo later shared a photograph of the couple’s wedding bands on social media, his mother responded with a heart.
The absence of relatives appears to have reflected the deliberately limited ceremony rather than a family dispute. Rodríguez said the couple still intends to hold a larger celebration with relatives and friends at a later date.
Why did they choose such a small wedding?
Rodríguez told Vogue that a demanding year of professional and personal commitments made an elaborate event difficult. More importantly, she said her idea of the perfect wedding had changed.
“When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds,” she said. “And now I’m saying, ‘No. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home.’”
She added that the couple already has routine access to the sort of luxury usually associated with grand weddings, including houses, islands, horses and cars. A quiet moment at home, by contrast, had become the rarer option.
“In the future we will have a big wedding so we can celebrate with family and friends,” Rodríguez said. Ronaldo’s relatives may therefore receive a little more warning next time.
What did Ronaldo say about marriage and retirement?
Ronaldo said becoming husband and wife placed their relationship in “a different league.” He also suggested that the 2026 season would “probably” be his final year as a professional footballer.
The Portugal captain said his future was already planned and that he wanted to spend more time with his family. Neither he nor Rodríguez completely ruled out having another child.
“Another baby now would be overbooking at home,” Rodríguez said. She added that they might reconsider when their youngest children are 15 or 16 because she struggles to imagine life without small children around.
“I never say never,” Ronaldo replied. “I want to leave a spectacular legacy.”
Where did the newlyweds appear after the ceremony?
The couple made their first public appearance after the wedding on Saturday night at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh. They watched Al-Nassr face Al-Fateh in the Saudi Pro League from a VIP box with their children.
Ronaldo wore an all-black outfit with several pieces of jewellery, while Rodríguez chose a satin bomber jacket. She held their eight-year-old daughter Alana as nine-year-old twins Eva and Mateo stood beside her in Al-Nassr shirts.
Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in 2023 but missed preseason after representing Portugal at the 2026 World Cup. Portugal’s campaign ended with a defeat to Spain in the round of 16, and his wedding kept him away for a little longer before he rejoined the club.
He did not play against Al-Fateh, but watched closely and applauded from the stands. Al-Nassr gave the newlyweds another reason to celebrate by winning 3-0, a result requiring no cathedral rumours, marriage certificates or emergency family notifications.
