Universal Music and UPI described the package as the group’s first complete singles archive. That framing is more accurate than calling it a routine merchandise drop. For collectors, the original artwork and deep catalogue material offer a fairly comprehensive record of the group’s singles era. Casual listeners who already own the hits may be less persuaded by 14 discs and a premium price.
Why did fans expect a Spice Girls reunion?
The campaign’s timing and secrecy encouraged comeback speculation, even though the original teaser reportedly told followers to have a vinyl or CD player ready. Some fans correctly guessed that a physical music release was coming. Many others saw anniversary imagery, a dramatic countdown and the official group account behaving mysteriously, then mentally booked a stadium.
The reaction was immediate. “At this point, the teasing feels abusive. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?? Bringing this up in therapy,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another asked whether an announcement that had spread so widely could “just be for a CD box set & unreleased music,” while a third offered the concise verdict: “This meeting could have been an email.”
Several comments focused on money that would now remain unspent. One person wrote, “puts credit card back in purse.” Another said negotiations with her husband over a spending limit for Spice Girls tickets had been “for NOTHING.” One fan had even started looking for part-time work to pay for a hypothetical tour.
The Standard, Indy100 and Cadena SER also reported that followers had interpreted the campaign as a possible comeback. No member had publicly responded to the backlash by September 11.
Is a five-member tour actually planned?
No reunion tour, residency or additional performance announcement has emerged. That matches what Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm said on The Smallzy Show on March 18: “There is no reunion.”
Chisholm added that the members remained in regular contact and wanted to do something together eventually. “Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future,” she said.
Melanie “Mel B” Brown sounded equally willing, though no more concrete, in comments later that month. “I would love to go on tour. I would love to do music, but it isn’t happening,” she said, adding that she was always ready to perform with the group.
The Sun reported in March that proposed 30th-anniversary performances had been abandoned after the members failed to reach an agreement. Their most recent concert run was the 2019 UK and Ireland stadium tour featuring Geri Halliwell, Brown, Emma Bunton and Chisholm, but not Victoria Beckham. All five last performed publicly together during the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.
Why reunion hopes remain unusually persistent
The demand is not difficult to explain. Official Charts credits the Spice Girls with nine UK No. 1 singles. “Wannabe” has accumulated two million UK chart units, while Spice has sold roughly 2.9 million copies in the country.
Fans therefore responded to the new campaign with requests for “A TOUR WITH ALL 5,” often borrowing lyrics from “Wannabe” to make the point. A Sphere residency in Las Vegas also appeared among the predictions, because apparently ordinary optimism was not enough.
For now, the five members appear together through archive material and recorded messages rather than onstage. The Singles Collection offers considerably more than a basic greatest-hits package, but the campaign demonstrated the risk of letting a countdown do too much work. When reunion hopes have been building for years, even clear references to vinyl and CDs may not stop fans from hearing the sound of ticket scanners.
