Among the issues they discuss is abortion.
“I’m like, ‘Do you think it’s a luxury that you get to be pro-life? Do you think that’s kind of a luxury?’ And he’s like, ‘Maybe,’” she said.
Her choice of words appears intended to push Jack to consider how his circumstances may shape his position, rather than simply telling him what to believe.
Faris said she also asks him to examine powerful religious figures more critically.
“Or I’ll say, ‘What do you think of this mega pastor that’s kind of a grifter?’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, mega pastors are the worst.’ So it’s like, ‘Okay, he’s getting there.’”
It is not exactly a conventional catechism lesson, though it may be a more useful one.
Faris said she appreciates that her son is examining religion while learning to recognise hypocrisy. She is also grateful that the two can discuss their differences at length, without disagreement shutting down the conversation.
Jack’s birth profoundly affected Chris Pratt’s faith
Jack’s religious outlook sits within a family history in which Christianity has carried particular emotional weight.
Faris and Pratt, now 47, married in 2009 and welcomed Jack in 2012. He was born nine weeks prematurely and suffered a severe cerebral haemorrhage, an experience Pratt has said transformed his relationship with God.
In a December 2025 essay for Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper, the Jurassic World actor recalled praying while his son was being treated in a neonatal intensive care unit.
“I promised that if Jack survived, I would devote my life to sharing God’s message. This time I meant it,” Pratt wrote.
Pratt has since become one of Hollywood’s most prominent Christian celebrities, speaking regularly about his beliefs despite criticism surrounding his public religious identity.
Asked by Page Six in 2023 whether he felt attacked over his faith, Pratt compared the criticism he received with hostility towards Jesus.
“That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him [Jesus], too,” he said.
“‘If I was of this world, they would love me just like that, but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world.’ That’s John 15:18 through 20.”
Pratt’s representatives have been contacted for comment on Faris’s remarks.
Religion remains part of the family’s separate lives
Faris and Pratt divorced in 2017 and have since remarried.
Pratt met Katherine Schwarzenegger at church and later married her. The couple have three children together.
Faris married cinematographer Michael Barrett in 2021 and is a stepmother to his daughter, Margot. Her comments suggest that she and Pratt do not need to hold identical beliefs for religion to remain a meaningful part of Jack’s upbringing.
They also show Faris trying to occupy a difficult parental middle ground: respecting her son’s faith while making sure conviction does not become immunity from questioning.
Faris returns to comedy with ‘Spa Weekend’
The actor made the remarks while promoting her new comedy, Spa Weekend.
The film follows a group of friends whose supposedly relaxing getaway descends into chaos. Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher and Michelle Buteau also star.
For Faris, however, the more revealing discussion concerned what happens away from the screen: a religious teenager, a non-religious mother and an invitation to accept Christ that has apparently opened negotiations rather than settled them.
Jack may yet persuade his mother. First, he will have to survive the follow-up questions.
