A John Travolta Pulp Fiction towel is now the kind of object people can bid on, because cinema history sometimes looks exactly like laundry. Propstore, working with Planet Hollywood, has opened bidding on the towel used in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 crime classic, specifically in the blood-cleanup sequence featuring Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson.
Why this towel matters to Pulp Fiction fans
In the film, Travolta’s Vincent Vega and Jackson’s Jules Winnfield create a serious problem when someone is accidentally shot in the back of their car. Enter Harvey Keitel as Winston Wolfe, the relentlessly practical fixer called in to manage the mess.
Wolfe hoses the blood off Vincent and Jules and hands them a towel. That towel, in the movie’s internal logic, belongs to Jimmie Dimmick, the character played by Tarantino himself. Not every prop can claim it was part of one of the most memorable cleanup jobs in modern film, which is probably why this particular piece of fabric is getting the collector treatment.
How much bidding has reached so far
The auction is already live and has drawn 10 bids so far. The highest bid stands at $1,000.
That is a lot for a towel in the normal world. In movie memorabilia terms, though, it is apparently just the opening stage of the ritual. The sale is scheduled to close early next month.
