Jesse Williams is already a father of two
The Grey’s Anatomy alum shares two children with his ex-wife Aryn Drake-Lee: daughter Sadie, 11, and son Maceo, 10.
Williams has spoken before about how seriously he takes fatherhood, especially while working far from home. In 2024, he filmed the TV series Hotel Costiera in Italy, where he met Onieva. The distance made parenting a logistical challenge, not that children tend to check time zones before needing their parent.
“[I was] waking up at 3 a.m. to call the kids,” Williams told People in September. “I'm nine hours ahead of them, so sleep was really tough.”
That kind of schedule is not glamorous, but it does say something useful about the emotional center of the story: Williams has been clear that staying present for his children matters, even when work makes it inconvenient.
What Williams has said about parenting
Williams has also reflected on the longer game of raising children, particularly the balance between protecting them and preparing them for the world they will actually live in.
“You try to make sure to expand on the good,” he told Parade in 2023, “and try to reduce things that were scary or negatively influenced you and protect your kids without rendering them unprepared for the realities of their life.”
He added that parenting has also made him notice the echoes of his own childhood.
“All parents can relate to hearing their own parents in their voice as they parent,” Williams continued. “I definitely find myself surprised at how often I sound like my dad or mom.”
It is a familiar realization, and maybe one of the less-discussed side effects of raising children: sooner or later, a sentence leaves your mouth and someone from your past seems to have said it for you.
A new chapter for Williams and Onieva
The pregnancy marks a major personal step for Williams and Onieva, whose relationship began after they met during his time filming in Italy. While neither has issued a formal statement beyond Onieva’s post, the announcement has already made clear what comes next for the couple: a shared first child, and a larger blended family for Williams.
For viewers who have followed Williams from Grey’s Anatomy into new projects, the update is less about celebrity spectacle than continuity. Work changes, relationships evolve, children grow, and sometimes the next chapter is announced with one word in Spanish and a red dress on Instagram.
