Still, Perry said performing helped her reconnect with her work and wider sense of purpose. It also placed her in the circumstances that led to her next relationship.
“I learned how to step back into my purpose,” she said. “And I got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life.”
That person was Trudeau, whom Perry was seen dining with in Montreal later in July 2025, the same month representatives for Perry and Bloom confirmed their separation.
What led to the end of the engagement?
Perry and Bloom met in 2016 and briefly separated in 2017 before reuniting. They became engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019 and welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove, in August 2020.
Their representatives confirmed the breakup in July 2025, saying the pair had spent several months adjusting their relationship to focus on co-parenting. By then, they had been together for about nine years and engaged for six.
Perry said she did not view that time as wasted, even if the relationship ultimately ended.
“I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there weren’t really important things to learn,” she said. “Each relationship is a teacher, right? I had to let it go so I could move forward.”
She also discussed the separation with her therapist, explaining that she had long wanted an “epic legendary love” to match the scale of her career. The missing piece, as she described it, eventually appeared. Celebrity life apparently does allow the occasional tidy narrative, provided the schedule permits.
Bloom has since begun dating model Luisa Laemmel.
When did Perry and Justin Trudeau confirm their relationship?
Speculation about Perry and Trudeau began after their Montreal dinner in July 2025. They confirmed the relationship on Instagram that December and made their red-carpet debut in June 2026.
At the New York premiere of her concert film that month, Perry said she was “very in love” and again called Trudeau “the love of my life.” She described herself as a “rainbow kite” who sometimes needed an anchor, adding that the relationship made her feel whole.
Trudeau shares three children with his former wife, Sophie Grégoire. Perry’s relationship with him therefore joins an already extensive family arrangement involving former partners, children and carefully managed calendars.
How are Perry and Bloom handling co-parenting?
Both Perry and Bloom have publicly presented their separation as amicable, with Daisy remaining their priority.
Speaking on NBC’s Today after the breakup, Bloom said: “We have the most beautiful daughter. We’re great. We’re going to be great. Nothing but love.”
Miranda Kerr, Bloom’s former wife, also described the split as mutual. She said Perry, Bloom and Kerr remained “one big happy family” after celebrating Daisy’s birthday together.
The public comments do not erase Perry’s account of a painful year, but they suggest the former couple has kept the separation from becoming a public dispute. More than a year later, Perry is presenting the period not simply as the end of an engagement, but as a difficult transition shaped by touring, therapy, a new relationship and an unusually cooperative blended family.
