Six workers were injured in an Ed Sheeran Detroit concert accident after stage equipment reportedly went out of control during the post-show dismantling operation at Ford Field.
The incident happened after Sheeran’s Saturday night performance, while crew members were taking down the stage. At least one injured worker reportedly remained in hospital overnight, although none of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening.
What happened during the stage load-out?
Emergency services received reports of a “forklift injury accident,” according to 911 dispatch calls. Workers told local outlet ClickOnDetroit that they had been walking near the stadium’s vehicle tunnel ramp and were preparing to take a break when a piece of equipment lost control and struck several people.
Video recorded inside Ford Field appears to show a red forklift at or against the edge of the stage. It remains unclear whether that vehicle caused the injuries, so the footage offers a possible clue rather than the tidy answer everyone would prefer.
Ford Field confirmed that one of the six people injured was a member of its team. The stadium said it had opened a full review and was working with authorities and the concert’s production partners.
