A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has granted Sabrina Carpenter a five-year restraining order against William Applegate, the 31-year-old man arrested at her Los Angeles home after she said he tried to get inside.

The order requires Applegate to stay 100 yards away from Carpenter, her sister Sarah, and Sarah’s boyfriend, George. TMZ reported the ruling on June 17, 2026.

What the court ordered

The court granted the restraining order after a hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court. “Permanent,” in this case, means it remains in effect for the next five years, not forever, because legal wording apparently enjoys being just slightly misleading.

Applegate testified at the hearing and opposed Carpenter’s request. The judge did not buy it.

What Carpenter alleged happened at her home

According to TMZ’s earlier reporting, Carpenter said Applegate came to her home and attempted to enter through the front door.

Her team described the alleged incident as “calculated and aggressive.” In court, Carpenter submitted a screenshot from a Ring doorbell camera that showed Applegate at her front door, using it as evidence to support the request.

Applegate was arrested on May 23. Carpenter alleged that he returned to her home about 24 hours later, then appeared again the following day before police responded once more.

Applegate’s claim was rejected

Media also previously reported that Applegate claimed Carpenter did not actually want the restraining order. He alleged the request was part of a conspiracy involving people around her.

The court’s decision indicates that argument did not carry the day. In plain terms: Applegate is now legally barred from going near Carpenter and the two other protected individuals for five years.
