Russell Crowe is expected to attend the Taormina Film Festival in Italy for the world premiere of Bear Country, an Australian action thriller that reunites him with Unhinged director Derrick Borte. The setting is not exactly modest: the film will debut as a special event in Taormina’s ancient Greek theatre, in the Sicilian resort many U.S. viewers now recognize from Season 2 of The White Lotus.
What Is Bear Country About?
In Bear Country, Crowe plays Manco Kapak, a veteran club owner trying to settle into a quieter life with his girlfriend. That plan, as action-thriller plans tend to do, collapses when a masked attacker robs his establishment.
The film’s cast also includes Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, Nina Dobrev and Aaron Paul. Most of the key cast members are expected to attend the premiere, giving the festival one of its higher-profile red-carpet moments this year.
The film is produced by Jeffrey Greenstein and Mark Fasano. In Italy, it will be distributed by Gianluca Curti’s Minerva Pictures.
Who Is on the Taormina Jury?
Festival chief Tiziana Rocca announced Saturday that this year’s jury will include a notable mix of actors, filmmakers and industry executives.
