Sunday, who has modeled for brands including Miu Miu and Dior, spoke about that balance in Elle Australia’s March cover story. “The privilege of having these experiences and meeting so many new people is so amazing,” she said, “but as a teenager it’s so easy to get sucked in to all of it so fast.”
She added that her mother has helped her handle the travel. “My mum is a really good traveler, so she has taught me how to be one, too, which makes it so fun to travel and enjoy all the different places.”
How Kidman Is Moving Through a Busy 2026
Kidman’s year has already taken her to Chile and Antarctica, Paris Fashion Week for Chanel’s runway show, New York to promote Scarpetta, Hollywood to present at the Oscars, and Las Vegas, where she joined Sandra Bullock at CinemaCon to preview Practical Magic 2.
Then came New York again, where Kidman co-chaired the 2026 Met Gala. Sunday Rose attended with her, getting around the event’s 18-and-over restriction because she was accompanied by a responsible adult. Celebrity event rules: strict, until they are thoughtfully accessorized.
For the “Fashion Is Art” dress code, Kidman wore Chanel in red. She described the color as “a strong symbol for love, for passionate love, vitality, for power, and motherhood.” Sunday wore Dior.
Kidman told Variety she had been “quiet” last year because of “other things going on,” but said she is now looking forward. “Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go.’”
What She Says This Chapter Is Really About
Kidman is treating the next phase of her life as a chance to stay open, not disappear. “I rally against limitations,” she told Variety. “I can explore all these things [through acting roles], and I’m like that in my personal life. This year and my next few years are for the adventures. I’m at a certain time in my life. I’m going to do the things I’ve always dreamt of doing that are not anything to do with work.”
Those adventures include planned family trips to the Galápagos Islands and Peru, where she wants to hike Machu Picchu. She also regularly travels to Sydney to visit her sister, Antonia Kidman.
Another part of her expansion is more unexpected: Kidman has said she is trying to become certified as a death doula. She connected that interest to the death of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, in September 2024.
During an April 11 talk at the University of San Francisco for the school’s Silk Speaker Series, Kidman said she remembered “how there was only so much the family could provide” near the end of her mother’s life. “So that’s part of my expansion,” she said, “and something I’ll be learning.”
Why Acting Still Has a Firm Hold on Her
A week later, on April 18, Kidman spoke at Philadelphia’s Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center and acknowledged that people seemed either “confused or intrigued” by her death doula training. She called the experience “really fascinating” so far.
“It’s very beautiful, and you have to be a certain personality to be able to do it,” she said. “But I found out that I’m actually that personality.”
That does not mean she is leaving acting behind. Kidman has said she once considered retiring when she first moved to Nashville, but her mother urged her not to “completely give up.” Around that same period, Kidman began producing as well.
“I’m a worker bee,” she said, reflecting on a career that has now stretched across four decades in film and prestige television. “I love to be in the world working, and I love to provide work if I can for others, and I love to do the work.”
She also made a rare reference to Urban while discussing her relationship with the United States. “I love that I’ve seen it in a very specific way,” she said. “I’ve seen all elements of it filming in different states, living in California, but also my ex-husband traveled on a tour bus all over America. It’s actually extraordinary because of the people.”
How Her Kids Are Shaping What Comes Next
For all the travel, fashion events and film promotion, Kidman has made it plain that her daughters are setting the pace at home. She has said she would like to return to the stage someday, especially off-Broadway or in regional theater, but not right now.
“Now is not the time,” she told Variety. “I’ve got to take care of these kids. That’s sort of in my ‘Future’ folder. I’ve got to fill this summer with kid stuff.”
Kidman has been through public reinvention before. In August 2001, during her divorce from Tom Cruise, David Letterman asked her on The Late Show how life was treating her. The 5-foot-11 actress famously replied, “Well, I can wear heels now,” a pointed joke about her roughly four-inches-shorter ex-husband that has lived a very long life online.
This time, she is not leaning on the one-liner. Her public message is quieter: family first, work still matters, adventure welcome. And on Sept. 11, when Practical Magic 2 arrives, Kidman has already promised, “I’ll be in full witch mode.”
