Kim Kardashian legal fees are now at the center of a closed lawsuit involving a mistaken social media post, after a judge ordered Ivan Cantu to pay her $167,000, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Kardashian had asked for $186,000 after defeating Cantu’s lawsuit. The court awarded most of that amount, despite Cantu arguing that a six-figure judgment would financially devastate him.
What the lawsuit was about
Cantu sued Kardashian after she posted his photo on social media while intending to identify a different man with the same name.
The intended subject was a death row inmate named Ivan Cantu, whose case Kardashian had been publicly advocating around. Instead, the image shared was of another Ivan Cantu, who later claimed the mistake caused serious harm to his life.
Kardashian’s position was that the post was an honest error and that she corrected it immediately after realizing the mix-up. The court ultimately sided with her and dismissed Cantu’s claims.
