Jaimee’s brain cancer fundraiser is seeking £320,516 after the 28-year-old was diagnosed with an aggressive, incurable tumour. Her partner, Mason Gascoigne, the adopted son of former England footballer Paul Gascoigne, has asked the public to help give her more time with their five-year-old son, Teddy.
Jaimee said her life changed when doctors diagnosed her with IDH1-mutant, CNS WHO grade 4 astrocytoma. She has undergone major brain surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible and is now receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
“Unfortunately, with this type of cancer, even after the standard treatment the tumour will progress and no one can predict how quickly,” she wrote on the fundraising page. “The median survival rate is about five years.”
Why the family needs more than £320,000
Jaimee has been offered the chance to participate in a clinical trial at a hospital in Ohio. The experimental drug is designed to target tumours like hers, but taking part comes with a cost of more than £320,000. Medical urgency, apparently, can still arrive with a very large invoice.
The family says raising £320,516 would give Jaimee a realistic chance of completing the trial. They need to secure the money within four weeks.
