Jennifer Lopez says her Ben Affleck divorce forced a kind of personal reset she had apparently been postponing. Speaking on the podcast SmartLess, the singer and actor said the end of the marriage pushed her to sit with herself, rather than keep searching elsewhere for explanations.
What Lopez said on SmartLess
Lopez described the period after the split as one of the hardest turning points in her life. Her account was not framed as a neat self-help arc, which is no bad thing. Instead, she said the breakup left her having to “f***ing figure” herself out.
By her account, she stopped looking outward for answers and had to turn the focus back on herself. She also said she came to see that there was “nobody to blame” but herself, describing the experience as deeply confusing.
The comments mark one of her more direct reflections on the personal fallout from the end of her marriage to Affleck, which ended after less than two years.
How she describes life now
Lopez said that, two years on, she does not see herself as the same person she was in 2024, when the relationship came apart. That is a fairly large claim, but she tied it to a specific change: learning to be alone with her own thoughts and taking responsibility for what she could control.
