GTA 6 Online Creator Pay Remains a Prediction

EntertainmentGTA 6 Online Creator Pay Remains a Prediction

GTA 6 Online creator monetization could eventually allow roleplay communities to earn money from custom stories, according to former Rockstar Games developer Joe Rubino. The idea fits the direction of travel, but Rockstar has not announced revenue sharing, player-run economies or even detailed what the next Online mode will include.

Rubino, a former cutscene product owner who worked on Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, told Eldorado.gg that Rockstar could give players official tools to build and sell narrative experiences. He also expects strict limits, because handing creators the keys is one thing; allowing them to redecorate the entire building is another.

“If they can develop safeguarded tools that you can play within the lines of acceptability, then I think Rockstar probably could consider that,” Rubino said.

Why paid roleplay looks plausible

Roleplay has changed how many people engage with Grand Theft Auto. FiveM servers let communities create characters, operate businesses and develop continuing storylines beyond the standard structure of GTA Online. NoPixel V, launched as an invite-only beta through the Rockstar Games Launcher, has attracted major streamers even though some established names did not receive invitations.

Rockstar has also moved closer to that community. In August 2023, it acquired Cfx.re, the developer behind the FiveM and RedM platforms. The company described those groups as its largest roleplay and creator communities and said it wanted to find “new ways to support” their developers and players.

Since then, Rockstar has introduced an official Cfx Marketplace where FiveM and RedM developers can sell scripts and other resources. It also released a more capable GTA Online Mission Creator in 2026. Neither development confirms Rubino’s prediction, but both show Rockstar becoming more comfortable with controlled user-generated content.

Digiday reported in February 2025, citing three anonymous industry insiders, that Rockstar had discussed custom GTA VI experiences with prominent creators from the Fortnite, Roblox and GTA communities. That suggests the company has at least explored the concept, which is still several steps short of announcing a payment programme.

The current rules restrict commercial RP servers

Rockstar’s published roleplay-server policy makes an unrestricted creator economy unlikely. Its enforcement priorities include commercial exploitation, sales of virtual currency, corporate sponsorships, cryptocurrency and the creation of new games, stories, missions or maps.

The Cfx Marketplace is therefore better understood as a controlled exception. Rockstar can decide who participates, what may be sold and where transactions take place. That model offers a possible prototype for paid GTA VI creation, but not necessarily an open system available to every player.

NoPixel V provides another clue. Its invite-only rollout points toward a curated group of approved creators rather than a completely open marketplace at launch. If Rockstar does introduce paid creation, access could depend on eligibility rules, moderation requirements and technical standards. Creative freedom may arrive with a substantial terms-of-service document attached.

Rubino acknowledged that safeguards would be necessary to protect Rockstar’s characters and artistic direction. He compared the issue to companies restricting how artificial intelligence systems use protected fictional characters.

Fortnite shows how revenue sharing could work

The commercial model Rubino described already exists in Fortnite. Epic Games places 40% of eligible net revenue into an engagement pool shared between Epic and third-party island developers. Payments depend on measures including playtime, retention and player acquisition. Creators must also meet eligibility requirements, complete tax onboarding and accumulate at least $100 before receiving a payout.

Rockstar has a sizeable audience to support something similar. Grand Theft Auto V had sold more than 215 million copies by 2025, while Take-Two Interactive reported growth in recurrent consumer spending partly driven by GTA Online and the GTA+ subscription service.

A creator programme could give Rockstar a steady supply of new experiences while rewarding the people making them. It could also shift more development work onto creators whose income depends on opaque engagement systems. That arrangement has proved commercially effective elsewhere, though “effective” does not always mean equally generous to everyone doing the work.

Rubino believes Rockstar could eventually share those rewards with its player base. “Why wouldn’t you let that trickle down and let your player base become kind of your tribe that is actually monetizing, and they get to reap those rewards?” he said.

What Rockstar has actually confirmed

As of September 10, 2026, Rockstar has not confirmed GTA VI Online creator tools, revenue sharing or player-run economies. The official game page lists a November 19, 2026 launch but offers no details about Online monetization.

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has also said Rockstar does not plan to discuss the new Online mode anytime soon. Rubino’s comments remain an informed prediction, not a leak or announcement.

He does not expect creator tools to be the first priority. In his view, GTA VI’s existing world should provide enough material to occupy players before Rockstar expands into deeper user creation. Streamers are already planning further ahead: Adin Ross has said he wants a GTA VI roleplay server where participation could function as full-time work and players could earn money through its economy.

Creators may also earn outside the game. YouTube has relaxed some monetization restrictions around graphic gameplay ahead of GTA VI’s release, potentially making videos and streams easier to monetize. For now, that familiar route is far more concrete than being paid directly by Rockstar.
