Some early casting information reversed those roles, but Paramount+ identifies Cox as Framt and Stevens as Stark. Entertainment Weekly also confirmed those character details.
Stevens described Stark as "a very unsettling character" with an unusual method and a "twisted narrative" built around himself. He said Hall's involvement helped draw him to the production, which he called a "wonderful family."
Harrison's private life moves closer to the police
The synopsis says Harrison Morgan, played by Jack Alcott, will continue pursuing his own idea of justice as father and son enter their darkest chapter. That effort may become substantially more complicated because Harrison's personal life is now connected to law enforcement.
Nona Parker Johnson joins as Fiona Mixon, an officer working in New York Police Department training and Harrison's new romantic interest. Bokeem Woodbine also appears as NYPD Captain Mixon. Paramount+ has not disclosed how their shared surname factors into the story, but placing Harrison close to two police figures is unlikely to improve Dexter's blood pressure.
That connection matters after the first-season finale, which left former Miami detective Angel Batista pursuing evidence that Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher. David Zayas, who played Batista, is not included in the announced returning cast, but the investigation he drove remains a major piece of unfinished business.
The police storyline gives the season a second source of pressure beyond its pair of featured killers. Dexter is not merely hunting dangerous people. He is also trying to avoid becoming the subject of a case that has followed him from Miami to New York with admirable bureaucratic persistence.
Who is joining and returning for Season 2
Hall leads the returning cast alongside Alcott, Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Desmond Harrington and James Remar.
The new and returning guest lineup includes:
- Brian Cox as retired New York Ripper Don Framt
- Dan Stevens as Five Borough Killer Lucas Stark
- Bokeem Woodbine as NYPD Captain Mixon
- Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon, a season regular
- Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard, a serial killer known as the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger
- Krysten Ritter, returning in a guest role
Hall previously said the production had assembled "exciting returning and new guest stars" and promised "another thrill ride." With at least three additional killers, an active police investigation and a family crisis in progress, the season is not suffering from a shortage of problems.
How Dexter reached another sequel
The original Dexter ran for eight seasons on Showtime and ended in 2013. Hall returned in the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood, which concluded with Harrison shooting his father.
The franchise then moved backward with the prequel Dexter: Original Sin, featuring Hall as the voice of Dexter's inner monologue, before Resurrection brought him back on screen. The sequel followed Dexter to New York and introduced Leon Prater, a billionaire who collected serial killers as if conventional hobbies had become unavailable.
Season 1 ended with Dexter surviving that world while Batista closed in on evidence tying him to the Bay Harbor Butcher case. Paramount+ said the series attracted 4.4 million multiplatform viewers during its first seven days after the July premiere.
Clyde Phillips developed the sequel and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Hall also executive produces, joined by Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Veronica West, Kirsa Rein, Tanner Bean and Katrina Mathewson. Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios produce the series.
