The Gucci Gown Was Part of a Bigger Style Run

The purple Gucci look followed another major fashion moment from Moore earlier in the festival. For the opening ceremony, she wore a strapless silver Jacquemus gown with a mermaid skirt and a diamond statement necklace.

That look set a high bar for the rest of her Cannes wardrobe, and her May 13 appearance suggested she and stylist Brad Goreski had no plans to lower it. The two have been working together for years, and the partnership has become one of the more consistent forces behind Moore’s recent red carpet evolution.

Moore and Goreski first met in 2008. He styled her for the first time in 2011, and their professional relationship has continued to shape how she presents herself at high-profile events.

In January, Moore spoke to Women’s Wear Daily about the trust she has in him, saying, “I know that I have the safety of somebody who looks out for me, who truly is looking out for what’s in my best interest.”

What Fashion Means to Moore Now

Moore has also been candid about the way fashion allows her to explore different sides of herself. She shares three daughters with ex-husband Bruce Willis: Rumer Willis, 37, Scout LaRue Willis, 34, and Tallulah Willis, 32. At this stage in her career and life, the red carpet appears less like a costume change and more like a space where she can let those different selves coexist.

“What I’ve learned is you don’t have to try too hard to be unique,” Moore told Women’s Wear Daily. “Sometimes I’m looking like this, and I go, ‘Oh, is that real when I’m in these other things?’ And I realize, yes, they’re all me. They’re just aspects of me. And how lucky am I that I get to play in that arena? That I get to step into a world that has fantasy?”

That idea helps explain why her Cannes appearances are drawing attention beyond the usual dress credits. The gowns are doing their job, certainly. But the emotional hook is the ease behind them: Moore looking like someone who knows the performance is part of the work, without letting it become the whole story.
