Bonnie Rotten Charged in Domestic Violence Case

CelebrityBonnie Rotten Charged in Domestic Violence Case

Prosecutors in Texas have filed a charge against Bonnie Rotten in a domestic violence case involving her husband, Jesse James, moving the matter from a reported household incident into a formal criminal proceeding.

Rotten, whose legal name is Alaina Antoinnette James, has been charged with assault causing bodily injury-family violence, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ. The offense is a misdemeanor, but not an especially casual one: if convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of up to one year in jail.

What prosecutors allege happened in March

The charge comes from a March incident at the couple’s Texas home. Prosecutors allege Rotten caused bodily injury to James by punching him, scratching his face and eye area, and/or biting his thumb, hand or finger.

James is best known as a motorcycle builder and reality television personality. Rotten, a former adult film performer, has been married to him through a stretch that now includes at least one court file with very little romance in the formatting.

According to a probable cause affidavit previously reported by TMZ, deputies responded to the home after a reported domestic disturbance. James told law enforcement that Rotten struck him multiple times and bit his thumb during the altercation.

Deputies said they observed visible injuries on James, including redness on his face and dark marks near one of his eyes.

What happened after the arrest

Following her arrest, Rotten was released on a $3,000 bond. The court also imposed several conditions while the case remains pending.

James was named as a protected person in the case. A judge ordered Rotten not to threaten, harass or assault him. That is standard legal language in this kind of proceeding, though it does rather underline the seriousness of the allegations.

The filing of the charge means prosecutors have now formally advanced the case, rather than leaving it at the arrest stage. From here, the matter proceeds through the usual criminal court process unless it is resolved earlier by dismissal, plea agreement or another court action.

Are Bonnie Rotten and Jesse James still together?

Despite the arrest and the court restrictions, Rotten told TMZ that she and James remain a couple.

She also posted an affectionate Father’s Day message for him over the weekend, signaling publicly that the marriage has not ended. That does not change the legal track of the case, of course. Courts are rarely moved by holiday posts, however warm the caption.

For now, Rotten faces a misdemeanor family violence charge in Texas, James is listed as a protected person, and the case is pending.
