The Sam Altman film Artificial is no longer set to be released by Amazon MGM, according to reports, leaving Luca Guadagnino’s Silicon Valley drama looking for a new studio before it ever reaches audiences. For a movie about corporate turbulence, the off-screen distribution shake-up is at least thematically consistent.
What happened to Artificial?
Amazon MGM has dropped plans to release Artificial, Guadagnino’s film about the five-day OpenAI crisis in 2023, when Sam Altman was ousted as chief executive and then reinstated.
The project had been in development for about a year. Puck first reported that Amazon MGM had decided not to release it. In a statement to Deadline, the studio said it believes the movie “will be better served if it were released by a different studio and is working closely with the filmmaking team to find the film a new home.”
That wording is the polished version of a very practical reality: the film is not dead, but it does need a new distributor.
Who is in the cast?
The film brings together a cast playing some of the most recognizable names in the OpenAI saga, a story that was already theatrical enough without actors attached.
