Tom Holland is once again trying not to say the thing, which is usually when the thing starts glowing in neon. Asked about Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the actor said Marvel Studios has kept him away from major plot details, while also sounding very much like someone expecting to show up on an Avengers set.
Speaking with Cinemania, Holland acknowledged the issue directly: he has a reputation for accidentally revealing Marvel secrets before the studio is ready. This is, to be fair, not an imaginary reputation. He previously let slip major details, including Peter Parker’s fate in Avengers: Infinity War.
What Did Tom Holland Say About The Avengers Movies?
Holland said he does not know much about the next two Avengers films, and suggested that is not an accident.
“I don't know a lot about those movies, I think by design,” Holland said. “I have a reputation for spoiling certain things, and I think the studios are keeping me from the juicy details. But when I do get to grace that set, I'm so curious — you know, what does that mean for Peter? And how does that work? I'm very excited about... whatever it is they're doing.”
That careful little phrase, “when I do get to grace that set,” says plenty. Holland did not flatly announce Spider-Man’s return to the Avengers films, but he did appear to suggest he expects to be involved in the production at some point.
Marvel, naturally, has not made that simple for anyone. The studio is currently in the middle of additional filming for Avengers: Doomsday, while Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to begin filming this fall.
Is Spider-Man Likely To Appear In Doomsday?
Holland is currently promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which opens on July 31. That film guarantees audiences will see his Peter Parker again this year, without needing to scan every Avengers casting rumor like it contains exam answers.
His possible role in Avengers: Doomsday is less clear. The bulk of that movie has already been filmed, and the cast is already crowded with characters competing for screen time. If Spider-Man appears, a cameo or smaller turn feels more plausible right now than a major role.
That does not mean it is impossible. Marvel has built entire marketing cycles around surprises, and additional photography can cover anything from minor connective tissue to major character moments. Still, with so many players already in the mix, Doomsday may not be where Holland’s Peter gets his biggest multiverse moment.
Why Secret Wars Makes More Sense For Peter Parker
Avengers: Secret Wars, due in December 2027, is the more obvious place for Holland’s Spider-Man to return in a meaningful way. Peter Parker has become one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s central figures, and Holland remains one of its most recognizable stars.
It would be difficult to imagine the closing chapter of the Multiverse Saga without him. That is especially true after Spider-Man: No Way Home, which turned the meeting of Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Men into one of the MCU’s biggest audience moments.
If Marvel wants one last multiverse reunion before shifting attention toward mutants, Secret Wars is the natural place to do it. There is also another possible Spider-Man connection: Sadie Sink’s character is reportedly set to appear in Secret Wars after debuting in Brand New Day.
For viewers, the emotional hook is simple. Holland’s Peter has been through loss, isolation, and the reset of his entire personal life. Putting him back into an Avengers-sized story raises an obvious question: what does being a hero look like when almost nobody remembers who you are?
Marvel Is Still Letting The Mystery Breathe
For now, Holland’s comments land in that familiar Marvel gray area between denial and confirmation. He says he does not know the details. He also says he is curious about what it means for Peter when he gets to that set. Subtle, in the way a siren is subtle.
This week also brought a new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day as tickets went on sale, along with a fresh round of themed popcorn buckets. Because even in the multiverse, commerce finds a way.
As for what Holland will actually do in Secret Wars, audiences may be waiting a while. Unless, of course, he accidentally tells everyone first.
