The actress, who plays Leslie Bennett, mother to Zendaya’s Rue Bennett, posted a reaction video after the May 17 episode aired, laughing at how little of her actually made it onto the screen.

“I just watched the episode that I’ve been promoting all week, and my mom over here is clowning me,” King said in an Instagram video shared shortly after the broadcast. “She said the internet waited all this time for me to just say one line.”

Technically, it was four words. Still, her mother’s review was not entirely unfair.

“You better be glad I’ve got thick skin,” she joked in the video.

The moment also became funny because King has spent the show’s long break publicly joking about how much she needed Euphoria to return. In a 2024 stand-up routine, she joked about her finances during the hiatus, saying, “I haven’t paid my rent in six months, and Zendaya’s over in Paris at Fashion Week. I’m like, ‘B---h, come home! I need you!’”

She added at the time, “I haven’t booked nothing since Euphoria.”

That joke hit harder because the HBO drama has had a unusually long gap between seasons. King first appeared on Euphoria when it debuted in 2019 and continued appearing during season two, which aired in 2022. Production then paused for three years before the third season arrived.

Leslie may still matter before the finale

King’s scene may have been short, but the episode also suggested Leslie could become more important before the season ends. Bishop, the drug lord henchman played by Darrell Britt-Gibson, makes a veiled threat to Rue involving her mother.

“It’d be real awkward if I lied to your mother, Leslie,” he tells Rue. “Nice lady. Told her how well you're doing.”

That line gives Leslie more narrative weight than her screen time suggests. In Euphoria, a loving family member being mentioned by a dangerous man is rarely a comforting development. The show does not exactly specialize in low-stakes family updates.

The threat also puts Rue’s recovery, or attempted recovery, back into more precarious territory. Her call with Leslie is intimate and restrained, but Bishop’s mention of her mother turns that private relationship into potential leverage.

What comes next for Euphoria?

The season three finale of Euphoria is scheduled to air on May 31. HBO has not announced whether the series will return for a fourth season.

For King, the episode became a reminder that screen time and impact are not always the same thing. Leslie appeared only briefly, but her four words were attached to one of Rue’s most emotionally exposed moments of the season. That may not be much dialogue, but it is still a lot to carry in ten seconds.
