Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025, aged 76. His death certificate listed out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and acute myocardial infarction, with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction recorded as associated causes, according to reporting by CBS News and the Associated Press.
Kelly said grief was difficult enough without having to experience it under constant observation.
“It’s hard to grieve anything, anyone. I would never wish that upon anybody,” she said. “But then to have to do it in front of the world and then get judged for the way you do it is even harder.”
She credited friends and relatives with helping her through the worst period. “I’m grateful there are beautiful people in this world that showed me so much kindness and love and support, and I really couldn’t have got through it without it.”
How grief affected her appetite and health
Osbourne has said her appetite disappeared after her father’s death. Reports from E! News, Us Weekly, The Independent and The Daily Beast corroborated her account that grief led to severe weight loss and left her regretting her appearance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The Grammys took place on February 1, not in January as some earlier coverage stated. The ceremony included a tribute to Ozzy featuring Post Malone, Slash, Duff McKagan, Chad Smith and Andrew Watt.
Kelly later said she had not understood how much weight she had lost until she saw herself around the event. She wore a wig partly to conceal how prominent her cheekbones had become.
“I didn’t know I looked like this,” she told The Mail on Sunday, adding that the sight had scared her. Just Jared reported that she also felt nauseated when trying to eat. Friends and family eventually raised concerns about her health.
Her comments have not stopped people from treating her body as a public referendum, apparently one conducted with no qualifications and very little restraint.
The body-shaming continued for months
The National Television Awards remarks were not an isolated response to one unpleasant comment. Osbourne faced months of criticism and speculation across appearances at the Grammys, the Brit Awards and, later, the television awards.
In February, E! News reported that one Instagram user said she looked like a “dead body” and was “going to see her dad soon.” Osbourne responded directly.
“Human beings go through weight fluctuations,” she wrote. “You don’t know what people are going through.”
After the Brit Awards, she again addressed attacks on her appearance. According to El País, Osbourne said that deliberately harming someone who was visibly struggling showed “a profound lack of compassion and character.”
Her description of grief complicates the usual celebrity weight-loss chatter. The change was not presented as a new routine, a product launch or an invitation for public scoring. She said she was unwell, struggling to eat and trying to function after losing her father.
What she plans to do next
Just Jared reported that Osbourne intends to make a three-part series about grief and mental health. The project is expected to explore both her physical decline and her efforts to shield her three-year-old son, Sidney, from the full extent of her distress.
At the National Television Awards, she brought Emmerdale actor Bradley Riches as her guest. Riches became close to the family after spending time with Sharon Osbourne in the Celebrity Big Brother house. Kelly joked that her mother gets annoyed because the pair “ended up becoming besties.”
She also gave a considerably shorter answer when asked whether Sharon might return as a judge for a rumoured revival of The X Factor: “No.” That particular mystery did not require a three-part series.
