“I spend a lot of time with my girlfriend, we spend a lot of time in the house together. So sometimes we can have little things that flare up,” Curtis said. “We have the opportunity to either be silent or be angry and go leave the house and think about it, meditate or try and change it. Or we can say, ‘Hey, this is what happened and I’m sorry.’”

He said those conversations include asking what the other person needs in the moment before an argument escalates.

“We’ve had discussions where, before anything bad happens in this situation, ‘Do you need time? Do you need 10 minutes to yourself to think about it?'” Curtis continued. “'Do you want to get into it immediately? Is it okay if we sleep over night, or are you the type of person if you go to bed angry it’s painful for you?'”

That context gives Aniston’s slideshow a little more weight than a standard summer post. It shows Curtis not as a headline accessory, but as someone moving through her world with friends, pets, and the ordinary negotiations that come with a real relationship.
