GTA 6 Loadout System May Limit Guns

EntertainmentGTA 6 Loadout System May Limit Guns

After years of Grand Theft Auto letting players behave as if their jackets were military warehouses, the GTA 6 loadout system appears to be taking a more selective approach. New details tied to the game’s Ultimate Edition suggest Rockstar may limit how many weapons Jason and Lucia can carry at one time, replacing the series’ familiar unlimited arsenal with something closer to an actual plan.

That would be a notable shift for a franchise where weapon switching has traditionally been part of the chaos. Assault rifle, shotgun, rocket launcher, grenades, all apparently stored somewhere on the human body. Best not to investigate the physics too closely.

What the Ultimate Edition reveals

After months of waiting, pre-orders for GTA 6 are now live, bringing with them the game’s pricing and edition details. The Ultimate Edition is listed at $100 and includes a range of exclusive extras, from the usual bonus items to entire stores.

Those edition details have also offered a few useful hints about how the game itself is structured. One revealed feature points to story chapters, a format that echoes Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s slower, more grounded western.

Now another bonus is getting attention: a garage that includes a “weapons locker” allowing players to “customize your loadout for any occasion.” That wording is doing a lot of work. It suggests players may need to choose which firearms to bring before heading into missions or open-world trouble, rather than carrying every gun they have ever purchased at all times.

Why this would be a major GTA change

In previous Grand Theft Auto games, players could build up a huge weapon collection and pull from it instantly. The system supported the series’ fast, messy energy, where a minor argument could escalate into armored vehicles and explosives within seconds. Subtlety has never really been the house style.

If GTA 6 restricts what Jason and Lucia can carry, it could make preparation more important. Players may have to think about whether they want close-range weapons, long-range firepower, explosives, or a more balanced setup before leaving a safe location.

That does not mean the game is suddenly becoming a tactical simulator. Rockstar has not yet explained how strict the system will be, or whether players can expand their carried inventory later in the story. The weapons locker could be a convenience feature, a genuine limit, or something between the two.

Still, the phrase “customize your loadout” strongly points toward a more deliberate system than the old unlimited weapon wheel.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 comparison

The closest Rockstar precedent is Red Dead Redemption 2. In that game, Arthur Morgan could carry a couple of handguns and two larger weapons, while the rest of his gear stayed with his horse. Each time players dismounted, they could choose the weapons best suited to what came next.

That design helped Red Dead Redemption 2 feel slower, heavier, and more realistic. It fit a western built around travel, planning, and the occasional reminder that horses are apparently mobile storage units.

Applying a similar idea to GTA 6 would land differently. Grand Theft Auto is built around faster movement, vehicles, police chases, and sudden escalation. A loadout limit could add tension by making choices matter, but it could also reshape the familiar rhythm of causing trouble first and checking inventory never.

What players still do not know

For now, the weapons locker is more hint than explanation. The big unanswered questions are straightforward:

  • How many weapons can Jason and Lucia carry at once?
  • Can players swap gear from vehicles, garages, or safehouses?
  • Will the limit change as the story progresses?
  • Are explosives and heavy weapons treated differently?
  • Is the system tied to missions, free roam, or both?

Rockstar says GTA 6 marketing will ramp up this summer, so a clearer breakdown may not be far off. Until then, the safest reading is that the studio is borrowing some structure from Red Dead Redemption 2 while adapting it for a very different kind of open-world mayhem.

If that holds, GTA 6 may ask players to make choices before the shooting starts. A small inconvenience, perhaps, but for a series used to infinite pockets, it is almost a philosophical crisis.
