Which platforms are reportedly getting the game?
The leaked platform list is the more interesting part. EA Sports FC 27 is reportedly coming to:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X/S
- Nintendo Switch 2
- PC
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox One
- Nintendo Switch
The continued support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is notable because both consoles are now more than a decade old. They are not exactly fresh hardware, even if plenty of households are still using them without apology.
The original Switch version is also unexpected. The launch of Nintendo Switch 2 last year finally gave Nintendo players a system capable of receiving versions of EA’s football game closer in features to the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC editions. Even so, EA appears unwilling to cut off the large audience still on the first Switch.
That’s business, not sentiment. More platforms mean more players, more full-price sales, and more opportunities for in-game spending.
Why EA may be keeping older consoles in the squad
The move makes practical sense when console prices are still high. Current-generation machines haven’t really become cheaper over time. In some cases, they have become more expensive, which is a charming development for anyone who enjoys paying more for things later.
The PlayStation 5 is now listed at £519.99 even at its cheapest, compared with its original £449.99 launch price.
Microsoft is also raising Xbox Series X prices on August 1. Exact UK prices have not yet been confirmed, but both digital and disc models are expected to rise by around £100. That would put estimated prices at roughly:
- £549.99 for the digital Xbox Series X
- £599.99 for the physical Xbox Series X
Nintendo Switch 2 may also be affected, although there is still no confirmed new UK price. Based on the US increase, the UK price could rise by about £35, bringing it to around £429.99.
Against that backdrop, dropping support for older consoles would mean telling a significant number of football fans to spend hundreds of pounds before buying the game itself. EA may prefer those players to spend their money inside EA Sports FC instead.
Physical copies are also part of the leak
Dealabs’ report also says physical PlayStation and Xbox copies of EA Sports FC 27 will include the full game on disc.
That detail might sound obvious, because physical games traditionally do involve, well, physical games. But it stands out because of wider concerns about the future of disc-based releases, especially with reports that Sony plans to move away from supporting physical games after 2027.
For players who still prefer owning boxed copies, or who live with slower internet connections, the presence of a disc is not a small detail. It affects installation, preservation, resale, and basic access.
EA has not formally announced EA Sports FC 27, so the usual caveat applies. Still, if the leak holds, this year’s entry will follow the familiar September schedule while keeping one foot planted in the previous console generation.
For players not ready, or not able, to upgrade, that is the real news. The football calendar rolls on, and this time, older hardware is apparently still invited.
