CelebrityDwayne Johnson Interview Blunder Goes NSFW

A Dwayne Johnson interview blunder turned a family-film press stop into a very different kind of conversation after the actor misunderstood a question during promotion for Disney’s live-action Moana.

Johnson, 54, is returning as Maui, the shapeshifting demigod he first voiced in the 2016 animated hit. The new version follows Moana as she leaves her island for the first time and heads out on a sweeping ocean voyage. Standard Disney press tour material, in other words, until one question briefly sailed out of PG waters.

What did Dwayne Johnson say on Kiss FM?

During an appearance on Kiss FM, presenter Tyler West asked Johnson: “What’s your stroke of choice?”

The question was meant as a swimming reference, tied neatly enough to Maui, the ocean and the whole Moana setting. Johnson, however, paused, laughed, and answered: “Domination.”

West immediately clarified where he had been trying to go, saying: “Oh, OK, fine! I was going swimming. I was thinking…”

That was the moment Johnson realised the question had not been nearly as adult as he assumed. “Oh s**!” he said, before adding: “I get it! Maui! The ocean! I went to a whole other place.”

As the interview wrapped with a handshake and some understandable laughter, Johnson summed up the damage himself: “I just completely gave away my sex life.”

The Rock shared the clip himself

If there was any hope the moment might quietly disappear, Johnson ended that by posting the clip on his own Instagram page. A bold crisis management strategy, but a fairly efficient one.

In the caption, he blamed the confusion on the grind of the press tour, writing: “I may always look clean, but under the hood your boy’s filthy 💀🤣.”

He added: “Honestly thought he was asking about a different kind of ‘stroke’.”

Johnson closed with: “Jesus 🤦🏽‍♂️😂 I need carbs. And sleep.”

The reaction was predictable once a global movie star accidentally turned a Disney interview into a confessional. One fan, @brooksyface, wrote: “As soon as I heard the laugh I knew, uh oh. Honestly what kinda question is that without context.”

Another, @goldentrckstar102, posted: “Even I was like ‘wait…HUH???’ 😂😂😂.”

A third, @karlusgtailor, joked: “Domination said with CHEST🤣😂.”

Not his first cheeky public comment

Johnson has built much of his public image on being polished, good-humoured and extremely aware of the room. This time, the room moved faster than he did.

Still, it is not the first time he has made a more adult joke in public. Alongside his action roles, Johnson has appeared in comedies with plenty of grown-up humour, including the 2017 film adaptation of Baywatch.

In 2018, he also weighed in after DJ Khaled drew criticism online for saying he refused to perform oral sex on his wife, Nicole Tuck, including on birthdays or at Christmas.

Johnson, who had recently welcomed his second child with Lauren Hashian, wrote on social media: “Ahem.. clears throat as a man, I take great pride in mastering ALL performances. This is probably a little TMI.. I will now quietly excuse myself from this fun thread.”

Fans at the time treated it as a classic mic-drop, amused by the unexpected level of disclosure.

When is the live-action Moana released?

The live-action Moana stars Catherine Laga’aia in the title role, with Johnson reprising Maui. It is due to arrive in cinemas on July 10, 2026.

The film is rated PG, so viewers can safely assume Johnson’s Kiss FM detour is not part of the official Disney package.
