American Horror Story Season 13 Gets Date

EntertainmentAmerican Horror Story Season 13 Gets Date

The witches may be circling again. American Horror Story Season 13 will premiere on FX and Hulu on September 24 at 6 p.m. PT, bringing back several of the anthology’s most recognizable faces and, apparently, enough Coven energy to keep fan theories very busy.

Who is returning for American Horror Story Season 13?

The new season is built around a large reunion cast, led by Jessica Lange, who has not appeared in an American Horror Story season since 2018’s Apocalypse. Sarah Paulson is also returning, and not in a mystery role: she will reprise Cordelia Goode, the Supreme of the Coven.

That casting detail is the one likely to make longtime viewers sit up straighter. Cordelia was central to Season 3, 2013’s Coven, and later returned in Apocalypse, which connected multiple chapters of the show’s mythology.

The returning ensemble also includes:

  • Evan Peters
  • Angela Bassett
  • Kathy Bates
  • Emma Roberts
  • Billie Lourd
  • Gabourey Sidibe
  • Leslie Grossman

For a series that has always treated its cast like a rotating haunted repertory company, this is still a notably crowded guest list.

Why fans think Coven may be back in play

The reunion of so many past American Horror Story stars has led fans to speculate that Season 13 could revisit Coven, one of the show’s most enduring chapters. The confirmed return of Paulson as Cordelia only adds fuel to that theory.

Paulson has been open about wanting to return to the character. In 2017, she said, “We only got to see her just getting her powers. I just would like to know if the power might have been something that kind of changed her. Maybe we’ll get to see that.”

That question gives the new season a clear emotional hook if the story does return to Cordelia’s world: what happens after someone finally becomes powerful? In American Horror Story terms, probably nothing calm, but that is not exactly a franchise problem.

Which new cast members are joining the franchise?

Season 13 will also add several new names to the American Horror Story universe. Ariana Grande is joining the cast, alongside John Waters, Paul Anthony Kelly, Joey Pollari and Alex Consani.

The mix of returning veterans and new performers suggests the season is not simply trading on nostalgia. It is also widening the show’s strange little neighborhood, which, after more than a decade, is still finding fresh doors to open. Some of them are likely best left closed, but here we are.

What is happening at San Diego Comic-Con?

Before the premiere, American Horror Story will host a promotional event at San Diego Comic-Con in July called “13 Flavors.” The activation will feature four American Horror Story-themed ice cream trucks, with flavors inspired by past seasons.

On Saturday evening, fans will be invited to a secret location for what is being billed as the 13th scoop. That final part may include a clue about the upcoming installment.

It is a very American Horror Story way to market a season: dessert first, dread shortly after.

Who is behind the new season?

American Horror Story was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. They executive produce the series alongside Ned Martel, Charlie Carver, Eric Kovtun, Nissa Diederich, Scott Robertson, Tanase Popa, Crystle Roberson Dorsey, Jennifer Salt and Tim Minear.

The series is produced by 20th Television. Season 13 arrives September 24 on FX and Hulu.
