She also acknowledged that Edward may face scrutiny from her relatives, who are likely to wonder whether he is sincere or more interested in what the relationship could provide.
“I know it’ll be intimidating for Edward to meet and spend time with my family because they’re probably going to judge him and wonder what his intentions are, just like they did with Michael,” she said.
Michael says Marissa’s wealth affected their marriage
Marissa’s ex-husband, Michael, who shares two sons with her, was blunt about his concerns. He questioned whether Edward’s interest in Marissa could be tied to a green card, a suspicion that tends to appear in this franchise with the regularity of a required form.
Michael also connected the situation to his own marriage to Marissa. He said her family’s wealth made him feel out of place.
“You got a million-dollar home here and it can make you feel a certain way,” he told her. “Look, I didn’t feel like I fit in.”
His discomfort was not just about status. Michael made clear that his main concern was how Edward’s arrival could affect the children and the family structure already in place.
A warning over the children
Michael told Marissa he expected to have an attitude about Edward’s arrival. He also warned that any added pressure on their sons would become a problem for both Marissa and Edward.
“The only thing that was an absolute problem is if it’s going to add stress to my boys, it’s going to be both of your guys’ problems,” he said.
Then came the line most likely to fuel the recap cycle.
“He needs to not come in hot and heavy and come at me a certain way because especially when it comes to my kids, I’ll bite someone’s face off for my kids,” Michael said.
Marissa said she was worried about a possible confrontation between Michael and Edward. She described her ex as “very scary and intimidating” when he gets worked up.
Edward arrives in New York
Despite the tension, Marissa was excited and nervous as she prepared to see Edward again. She admitted the relationship meant giving up part of the independence she had built as a single woman.
“I don’t know if I want to give this single independent woman part of me up, but I love Edward so much that I want to take this leap of faith for us,” she told cameras.
The reunion itself was warm. Marissa picked Edward up at the airport in New York City, where the couple embraced after their long wait to be together in the US.
She also gave him a symbolic welcome gift: a key to her million-dollar home, wrapped in a box.
Marissa framed Edward’s arrival as a milestone in their K-1 visa process and in their relationship.
“We appreciate now being together in this moment just because like, it’s been a long time waiting and to have Edward here now just feels like probably one of the best days in our relationship so far,” she said.
Edward has arrived. Whether the family adjusts as smoothly is exactly the kind of question the show plans to keep stretching out.
