A White House bee swarm disrupted the North Lawn on Friday, with thousands of bees reportedly gathering around the press corps’ “Pebble Beach” media area after setting up a hive in a nearby tree. It was not the usual Washington cloud of activity, though admittedly the comparison was available.
What happened on the North Lawn
Video from the scene showed a dense swarm moving through the media setup area used by reporters covering the White House. The bees also spread across part of the North Lawn driveway, close to the West Wing.
Reporters and staffers were seen moving away as the swarm passed through, which is a sensible tactical adjustment when the opponent is airborne and numerous.
The insects appeared in large enough numbers to create a visible buzzing cloud over the grounds. The scene briefly made the press area look less like a routine day of political coverage and more like nature had scheduled its own briefing.
