CelebrityStanley Tucci Opens Up on His Marriage Gap

Stanley Tucci is not pretending the numbers are invisible. He is simply saying they were never the whole story.

The actor, 65, spoke about the 21-year age difference between him and his wife, literary agent Felicity Blunt, 45, during the May 7 episode of Jenna Bush Hager’s Open Book podcast. For Tucci, the relationship worked because it came with history, trust and a very practical kind of happiness.

“It just sort of made sense, even though there is this age gap of 21 years,” Tucci said. “I knew her family, or I knew her sister was one of my best friends. And we just hit it off.”

A connection that started around The Devil Wears Prada

Tucci first met Felicity at the 2006 premiere of The Devil Wears Prada. Her younger sister is Emily Blunt, Tucci’s co-star in the film and one of his close friends. The pair later reconnected in 2010 at Emily’s wedding to John Krasinski.

At that point, Tucci was still navigating life after loss. His first wife, Kate Tucci, died in 2009. They had three children together: twins Nicolo and Isabel, now 26, and daughter Camilla, now 24.

Tucci said he was “wasn’t sure” whether he would ever marry again. Felicity, he explained, changed that without turning the situation into a grand speech about destiny, which is probably for the best. Grand speeches rarely survive real family logistics.

“We had a lot in common, even though we had nothing in common,” he recalled. “It just sort of stuck. But I think she changed my life in the sense that she gave me a sense of security. She gave my children a sense of security. And she's fun. Like, she's fun to hang out with.”

What he says Felicity brought to the family

Tucci and Felicity married in 2012. They later welcomed two children together, Mateo, 11, and Emilia, 8.

On the podcast, Tucci described Felicity as “incredibly positive,” adding that it is a quality he does not always naturally share.

“Her mind is incredible,” he said. “Her capacity to take in information, not just from a book, but from the world and process it, and turn it into something else is just extraordinary. She's pretty cool.”

The age gap was not always easy for him

Tucci has spoken before about feeling uneasy over the age difference early in the relationship. In a 2023 interview with BBC Radio, he said he initially tried to end things because he worried about what the gap would mean over time.

“I kept trying to break it off,” he said then. “I'm 21 years older than she is, and I didn't want to feel old for the rest of my life. But I knew that this was an incredibly special person.”

He also credited Felicity with taking on an unusually complicated emotional role at a young age.

“Felicity has been so incredible, taking on a widower and three children whose mother died,” Tucci said. “That's a huge thing at a very young age, too. If anybody made things better for all of us, it's her. She's the one.”

Tucci, who is set to appear in The Devil Wears Prada 2, framed the marriage less as a romance built around contrast and more as one built around steadiness. In his telling, the 21 years are part of the facts. They are not the point.
