She said she was not making the allegation to seek sympathy, retaliate or publicly humiliate her former fiancé. Instead, she framed the statement as a warning against dismissing obvious problems to preserve a relationship.
“Too many women are taught to question themselves before they question what is happening right in front of them,” Serayah said.
Reports disagree slightly on the timing of the post. E! News dated it to August 25, while TheGrio, Complex, Us Weekly and Hot 97 reported that it appeared on Monday, August 24. The central facts, including the breakup and Serayah’s allegation of repeated cheating, were consistent across those reports.
Joey Bada$$ has not publicly responded to the allegation, and no outlet has reported an on-record denial from him.
His monogamy claim now faces an awkward test
Serayah’s account conflicts directly with how Joey described their relationship earlier in 2025. The rapper had previously spoken openly about polyamory, but told Essence that meeting Serayah and buying a home had changed what he wanted.
“So I’m very much monogamous now,” he said at the time.
Her allegation that infidelity continued throughout their relationship puts that statement under considerably less flattering lighting. It does not independently prove what happened, but it creates a clear dispute between his public description of the relationship and hers.
HotNewHipHop later reported that Serayah posted and deleted a video containing a recorded conversation that appeared to capture Joey discussing her and their relationship with another woman. Separately, iHeartRadio, citing TMZ, reported that Serayah overheard the woman speaking disparagingly about her and confronted Joey.
Neither report produced a public response from the rapper. Serayah also made clear that she did not intend to release further intimate details.
The split followed a public appearance together
The breakup came only 16 days after Serayah and Joey appeared at Invest Fest on a panel titled “Couples Who Build Together.” The appearance suggested that their relationship remained intact, at least to anyone watching from outside, which is usually where celebrity relationships look most orderly.
The pair publicly confirmed their romance in 2023. They announced Serayah’s pregnancy in February 2025 and welcomed their son around June that year. Capital XTRA reported that they became engaged in May 2025.
The boy is Serayah’s first child and Joey’s second. Essence previously reported that the rapper also has a daughter named Indigo Raine.
Despite the circumstances, Serayah said she would continue to respect Joey’s place in their son’s life.
“I will always respect the fact that we share a beautiful son,” she wrote. “And my priority will be protecting his peace, privacy and relationship with both of his parents.”
She added that this responsibility was why she would not discuss the relationship publicly beyond her statement.
Serayah urged women not to compromise themselves
Much of Serayah’s message focused less on the mechanics of the breakup and more on self-worth. She urged women not to diminish themselves or abandon their values to preserve a future they had imagined with someone else.
“Don’t make yourself smaller to keep someone else comfortable,” she wrote. “Don’t compromise your values because you’re afraid of losing the future you imagined. And don’t allow someone else’s choices to become a referendum on your worth.”
Serayah acknowledged that the relationship had not ended as she hoped, but described the decision as the start of a different chapter rather than simply a public collapse.
“Endings can also be beginnings,” she concluded.
For now, her allegation stands publicly unanswered. The engagement is over, the co-parenting relationship remains, and Joey’s declaration of monogamy has acquired a rather significant footnote.
