Rick Fox has addressed the physical altercation that put him back in the headlines, but anyone waiting for a traditional apology did not get one.

The former basketball star, who is running for political office in The Bahamas, spoke at a campaign rally on Sunday after video circulated earlier in the week showing him lunging at a man. Fox has said the man made death threats toward his campaign manager.

A “sorry” with very sharp edges

At the rally, Fox framed his remarks like a mea culpa, but the delivery quickly made the point. He began by apologizing to his family, saying they may have been meeting “the enforcer” for the first time, a reference to the physical role he often played during his basketball career.
