Kim Kardashian’s legal path appears to be taking a scheduled pause, not a full stop.
TMZ reports that the Kardashians star, 45, did not sit for the February California Bar exam and is not planning to take the next exam in July. According to the outlet’s sources, Kardashian is not expected to try again until 2027.
California offers the bar exam twice a year. Kardashian has taken the State of California Bar Exam once, after attempting it in July last year. Page Six reported that a representative for Kardashian did not immediately respond to its request for comment.
What she has taken so far
Kardashian’s law journey has been unusually public, partly because almost everything in Kardashian-world eventually becomes a documented chapter.
She previously took California’s First-Year Law Students’ Examination, often called the “baby bar,” which was required for her legal apprenticeship track. She failed that exam three times before passing on her fourth attempt in 2021.
Her most recent setback came after her July California Bar exam attempt. In November, Kardashian confirmed the result herself on Instagram Stories.
“Well… I’m not a lawyer yet,” she wrote. “I just play a very well-dressed one on TV.”
She added: “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.”
Kardashian also currently plays a lawyer in Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair, a detail she acknowledged in that same post with a bit of self-aware timing.
Her own comments on the setback
The reported pause follows Kardashian’s own public comments about how the failed exam affected her. Speaking to Time in December, she said the result had shaken her “confidence.”
“I took a minute to process that, and instantly, when I got my results, I didn’t feel good about it,” Kardashian told the magazine. “I was really uncomfortable and not confident for a while.”
She also explained why she chose to address the result before it spread online.
“You get the results on a Friday, and I knew Sunday morning they were going to be live on the internet,” she said. “So I wanted to mention it first and let people know that it didn’t go my way.”
The studying has already been part of the show
Kardashian has also discussed the physical and emotional pressure of bar prep on The Kardashians. In one episode, she became tearful while describing the strain of studying for the exam.
“I’m absolutely gonna cry cause it’s f–king exhausting,” she told the camera, saying she had “hit a wall” with preparation.
She also said she had injured her back during that period.
“I threw my back out, and it’s, like, every time I think I get to another step, something pulls me back,” she said, adding that she could “hardly walk” and “hardly f–king sit.”
For now, the reported update is narrow but notable: Kardashian has not abandoned the project publicly, but according to TMZ’s sources, the next formal exam attempt may be pushed well into 2027.
