Presley Gerber had a sober coach providing 24/7 support during the final months of his life, according to a report. The coach regularly travelled with the 27-year-old model and was described as “very present” as Gerber dealt with substance use and mental health struggles.
It remains unclear whether the coach was at Resolutions Living when Gerber died on Sunday. The rehabilitation facility operates from a luxury Santa Monica property valued at $7.7 million, though the expensive surroundings have offered few answers about what happened.
What happened before Presley Gerber died?
Gerber checked into the California treatment centre during the same weekend he was pronounced dead. Page Six reported that he was under the influence of an unidentified substance when he admitted himself.
TMZ also reported that a doctor had prescribed Gerber ketamine despite his alleged “regular problem” with the drug. No further details about the prescription, its timing or the doctor involved were disclosed.
Emergency dispatch audio recorded Gerber going into “cardiac arrest,” with responders treating the incident as a suspected “overdose.” Authorities have not announced an official cause of death, meaning any connection between ketamine, another substance and his death remains unconfirmed.
The sober coach’s role during Gerber’s admission is similarly uncertain. Reports indicate the coach had offered continuous assistance and accompanied him on trips in recent months, but no account has established whether that support continued inside the facility or at the time of the medical emergency.
Gerber had spoken about his mental health
Before his death, Gerber had discussed both substance use and his efforts to manage his mental health. In November, he explained a short absence from social media by saying he “had to step back and take care of my own mental health for a bit.”
“I’m coming back soon, stronger, clearer, more intentional than ever,” he wrote on Instagram.
Gerber also promoted a social media initiative called “Mental Health Mondays.” He said its aim was “to spark real conversations about the stuff most people hide,” particularly as public discussion around men’s mental health continued to grow.
“It’s been incredible seeing how far that message has spread and how many people it’s helped,” he wrote. “I’m proud that something I created has inspired others and started a bigger movement around openness and healing.”
He added that November’s focus on men’s mental health made it an appropriate time to continue those conversations. His posts presented recovery as an active process rather than a polished announcement, a distinction often lost when personal struggles become public material.
His family is mourning a close sibling bond
Gerber was the only son of model Cindy Crawford, 60, and businessman Rande Gerber, 64. The couple also share daughter Kaia Gerber, 25, who followed her mother and brother into modelling.
A source said Kaia was “insanely close” to her older brother and had been left devastated by his death.
“They were way more than brother and sister,” the source said. “She is heartbroken. They were like best friends.”
The family has not publicly addressed the reports about the sober coach or Gerber’s alleged ketamine prescription. Investigators have yet to release the findings that would establish how he died.
