Presley Gerber’s death at 27 has been confirmed by his family after the model died at a rehabilitation facility on September 20.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported the death. A cause has not yet been determined.
Gerber was the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, and the older brother of model and actor Kaia Gerber. A family representative told TMZ that his relatives were “asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
What Presley Gerber said about his mental health
Gerber had spoken publicly about his mental health, grief and treatment before his death. In an Instagram video posted in December 2025, he said he had recently experienced “a lot of loss in many different forms.”
“That is not an excuse, but it’s the reason, or part of why I am where I’m at now,” he said.
He also discussed the medications he had been prescribed and said he wanted clearer instructions about how to take them. According to Gerber, he had seen around 15 psychiatrists, but often felt he had been given too much discretion over dosages.
“Every psychiatrist I’ve had, and I’ve had, like, 15, they’re all like, ‘Here’s 20 medications,’” he recalled. “‘Take this if you feel like this, take this as needed.’ And I’m like, ‘No, don’t give me that much leeway. I need some direction.’”
It was a blunt description of a system that, in his telling, supplied plenty of prescriptions but not always enough guidance.
Why he distanced himself from Hollywood
In the same video, Gerber said he was trying to surround himself with people who had a positive influence on his life. Growing up in Hollywood had left him with a large social circle, but he explained that affection alone did not make every relationship helpful.
“I’ve grown up in Hollywood, and there’s a lot of people around that I love to death,” he said, “but right now, I try not to be around them.”
Gerber said he hoped speaking openly would help others feel less isolated. He admitted that loneliness remained a frequent part of his own experience.
“I’m hoping this reaches people in many ways so you feel like you’re not alone, because that is how I feel most of the time,” he said. “I have a feeling if I say all of this, a lot of people will at least know that there’s someone else going through it.”
How Kaia Gerber described the family’s experience
Kaia Gerber discussed her brother’s personal struggles in a Vogue interview published on August 11, just over a month before his death.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” the Shards actor said. She explained that the experience contributed to her seeing herself as “the easy one” in the family and made her reluctant to seek support.
“I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help,” she said. “Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.”
Kaia also praised her brother for discussing matters their parents had traditionally kept private.
“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything,” she said. “And now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’”
She added that families can only conceal so much, and that attempting to suppress a person’s struggles can make them feel their relatives are ashamed of them.
