Lady Gaga’s baby name has been revealed through newly released birth records, showing that the singer and her fiancé, technology entrepreneur Michael Polansky, called their daughter Rose Bean Polansky.
The couple became first-time parents earlier this summer. Their daughter was born at 11:19pm on June 9 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to a birth certificate obtained by TMZ. The hospital is a familiar destination for prominent families, because even celebrity births eventually require paperwork.
Lady Gaga, whose legal name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, and Polansky have not publicly commented on the arrival of their daughter.
Why does the name Rose matter to Lady Gaga?
Rose appears to be a tribute to Gaga’s late maternal grandmother, Veronica Rose “Ronnie” Ferrie Bissett. Her grandmother has long held an important place in the singer’s family history, giving the baby’s first name a clear personal connection.
The name also appears elsewhere in Gaga’s life and work. She has the words La Vie En Rose tattooed down her spine, referring to the classic French song associated with Édith Piaf. Gaga performed the song in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, in which she starred opposite Bradley Cooper.
The birth certificate lists Dr Robert Katz as the doctor who delivered Rose. Katz has previously delivered the daughter of singer Ciara and National Football League player Russell Wilson, making him no stranger to births that later become entertainment headlines.
When did news of the birth emerge?
Reports that Gaga had become a mother surfaced last week after months of speculation about her limited public appearances. She had largely stayed out of sight after completing her Mayhem Ball tour in April.
Her last known public appearance before the reports came during an unexpected meeting with a fan in Northern California in August. Photographs later published by Page Six showed Gaga and Polansky together with their newborn daughter.
The couple began dating in 2019 after meeting at a birthday party for technology entrepreneur Sean Parker. They became engaged in April 2024.
Gaga has spoken repeatedly about wanting children, framing motherhood as the next major part of her life rather than another item on an already crowded professional schedule.
During an October appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she called motherhood her “next starring role”.
“I would like to do many things, yeah, all of these things,” she said. “But what I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role, I hope.”
