Kelly Osbourne’s weight gain has become part of a much less tidy story about bereavement, illness and relentless public scrutiny. The 41-year-old says she has regained about two stone, or 28 pounds, after losing a severe amount of weight following the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne.

In an interview with The Sun published on October 10, Osbourne said grief had made eating physically difficult. She rejected suggestions that she had deliberately pursued the dramatic change or developed an eating disorder.

“It wasn’t an eating disorder,” she said. “I just couldn’t do anything for myself. Eating made me feel like I wanted to throw up.”

What caused Kelly Osbourne’s severe weight loss?

Ozzy Osbourne died in July 2025 at the age of 76 after years of declining health. Kelly, one of his six children, later described the period that followed as “the worst year” of her life. She was also dealing with a public split from her former fiancé, Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson, with whom she shares 3-year-old son Sidney.

In September, she told the Mail on Sunday that her grief had begun long before her father’s death. She described experiencing “anticipatory grief” during roughly a decade of his health problems.

The physical effects became severe. “My spine, you could see every single bone,” she said of her appearance at her lowest weight.

Osbourne has framed the loss as both devastating and evidence of how deeply she loved her father.

“In so many ways, I can’t even explain to you,” she said. “But it’s also been really beautiful because I’ve learned that my grief is an honor, as I truly love someone that much.”

No new medical diagnosis has been disclosed since the interview. Later reports repeated her account that nausea and emotional distress prevented her from eating, rather than uncovering a new explanation. Public commentary did not wait for those details, naturally.

When did she realize how unwell she looked?

Osbourne told The Sun that photographs from the BRIT Awards on February 28, 2026, showed her the extent of the change.

“I didn’t know that I looked like that until I saw the pictures,” she said. “When I saw them, I couldn’t f--king believe it. I was as shocked as everyone else.”

There is, however, a small but notable discrepancy in the published timeline. Reports from E! News, NME and The Independent in September said Osbourne first recognized the seriousness of her condition after seeing a fitting photograph taken before the Grammy Awards on February 1, almost four weeks before the BRITs.

The accounts do not explain the difference. Both moments may have shocked her, but the reporting leaves the exact point of realization unclear. What is consistent is that photographs, rather than a number on a scale, made the severity visible to her.

By October, Osbourne said she had regained nearly 30 pounds. Jack Osbourne had also told The Sun in August that his sister was in “a happier place,” living in the country and focusing on motherhood after her separation from Wilson.

Why did Ozempic and surgery enter the discussion?

Coverage of Osbourne’s appearance did not begin with her father’s death. Her weight has been treated as public property for years, aided by her long television career and an entertainment press that has rarely encountered a woman’s body it considered none of its business.

ABC News reported in 2020 that she had lost 85 pounds after undergoing gastric-sleeve surgery and making lifestyle changes. That history resurfaced as people speculated about her latest transformation.

Ozempic also became part of the online discussion, despite Osbourne telling People in 2024 that she had never used the medication. She defended its use when appropriately prescribed but denied taking it herself.

The confusion may partly reflect comments from her mother, Sharon Osbourne, who has openly discussed using Ozempic. Sharon told The Guardian that she lost three stone in four months while taking it.

Kelly has also rejected claims that cosmetic surgery changed her face. She said she has used Botox between her eyebrows and in her jaw, where it helps with teeth grinding and migraines, but denied having plastic surgery.

“This is the face that God and my family gave me,” she said, “and whether you like it or not, that’s up to you, but I’m alright with it.”

How did Kelly Osbourne seek help?

At the lowest point of her grief, Osbourne said she turned to a personal ritual connected to her father. She practices what she called “candle magic” and believed Ozzy would send her messages after his death.

“It felt like everything inside me was dead, and I didn’t want my son to see me like this,” she said.

Osbourne visited her father’s grave with a white candle and wrote a request for help on it. The following day, Sharon arrived in a black Mercedes accompanied by Chris Miller, a therapist and life coach.

Osbourne credits Miller with saving her life and changing her in ways she had not believed possible. The sequence may sound unusually cinematic, but the practical result was straightforward: she began receiving support.

Her recovery remains ongoing. Osbourne has said she plans to make a three-part television series focused on grief and mental health, extending the conversation beyond photographs and speculation about how she lost weight.

She has also asked for more compassion toward people whose private difficulties become public entertainment.

“No one knows what people are dealing with in private,” she said. “I was just sad. I don’t wish that pain on anyone ever. And to do that in front of everyone just sucked.”

For Osbourne, regaining 28 pounds is not presented as another dramatic transformation. It is evidence that she is eating again, receiving help and moving through a bereavement that was visible to millions before she was ready to explain it.
