Jason and Lucia also provide security for a character named Andreas. When his business deal goes wrong, they must survive several dangerous situations and find a route out.
According to IGN’s preview, missions can have multiple exit options. Players may also need to earn enough money before certain parts of the story become available. Open-world discoveries can lead to new missions, much as clues did in Red Dead Redemption 2.
IGN said players will be “rewarded” for exploring rather than immediately moving from one story objective to the next. Leonida is therefore designed as more than scenery between gunfights, although it will naturally contain plenty of those too.
How will robberies and police searches work?
One major mechanic shown in the presentation had previously appeared in clips attributed to Cyberleek. Witnesses can identify Jason and Lucia by their clothing, while security cameras may record what they are wearing during a crime.
Shop owners are not guaranteed to cooperate, either. Some can draw weapons and fire at would-be robbers, turning a quick theft into the sort of administrative complication Grand Theft Auto characters routinely create for themselves.
Raul Bautista also appears, with Jason and Lucia working as getaway drivers after a bank robbery. The escape develops into another shootout. At one point, Jason shoots the tires of police vehicles, causing the cars to flip.
Players can store clothing and weapons inside vehicles. That allows the protagonists to change their appearance once police begin searching for specific suspects. Clothes are no longer merely cosmetic when the local authorities have camera footage and a description.
The maximum wanted level has also increased from five stars to six. Rockstar apparently concluded that the established police response did not involve quite enough vehicles arriving at high speed.
What new systems affect missions and car theft?
Several clips confirm that players can switch seamlessly between Jason and Lucia during missions. The available character will depend on what each part of the job requires, expanding the dual-protagonist structure beyond simply swapping between them in the open world.
IGN also reported a new Focus system. Activating it highlights objects or opportunities that may interest the player, including collectibles and possible routes into additional missions.
Vehicle theft can require more effort than opening a door and driving away. According to GTA-focused creator TGG_GTA, certain cars have minigames that players must complete before they can steal them.
The game reportedly includes a criminal profiling system as well. Efficiently completing offences can help players become what the presentation describes as a “good criminal”. The phrase concerns professional competence rather than morality, which is probably an important distinction in this case.
Together, these systems suggest that robberies will place greater emphasis on preparation, evidence and execution. Clothing, cameras, stored equipment and witness reactions all influence what happens after a crime, while the additional wanted star raises the eventual cost of getting everything wrong.
Which activities are available across Leonida?
The extended footage showed a large selection of activities, several of which had previously appeared in leaked material. Jason can play basketball outside his home, while competitive events include track racing, street racing and dirt-bike racing. Car meets also feature in the open world.
Water and aerial activities appear equally well represented. Players can:
- Base jump from tall buildings in Vice City
- Use kayaks and fan boats
- Go scuba diving
- Swim and jump into the sea
- Enter track, street and dirt-bike races
IGN reported that pool will return, while mini-golf is a new addition. Players can also visit a zoo and learn about its animals, echoing the wildlife information featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Lucia is shown training at a gun range, where the game records her time as she shoots targets. She can also work out at a gym, although access requires purchasing a membership. Even habitual car thieves must apparently respect reception-desk procedures.
These activities support Rockstar’s broader claim that spending time away from the main story will have practical value. They also make Leonida look less like a mission map and more like a functioning state filled with distractions, businesses and several opportunities to make local law enforcement deeply unhappy.
What happens after the Netflix presentation?
Rockstar plans to upload the full gameplay presentation to YouTube for anyone who missed the Netflix broadcast.
The event had appeared uncertain after Cyberleek released a series of alleged development clips. Rockstar described those leaks as “heartbreaking” and “unfortunate”, but said work remains underway ahead of the game’s November 19 release date.
Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have issued subpoenas to several social media platforms as they attempt to identify the person responsible. Cyberleek reportedly earned more than $250,000 through a memecoin promoted around the leaked material.
Despite that disruption, the official showcase went ahead and supplied the clearest account yet of how Jason, Lucia and Leonida will function. It confirmed a more reactive police system, visible consequences for extended time on the run, flexible missions and enough leisure activities to delay the main plot for a considerable number of hours.
