For players who have already watched Rockstar Games move its blockbuster twice, GTA 6 delay speculation is not exactly an abstract concern. Former Rockstar animator Mike York says he would not be surprised by another postponement into 2027, but his warning is based on experience rather than current inside knowledge, and it runs against Take-Two Interactive’s latest official guidance.

As of August 6, Take-Two still lists Grand Theft Auto 6 for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The publisher has also said Rockstar’s launch marketing will begin this summer. That campaign has remained conspicuously quiet so far, although summer, inconveniently for rumor production, is not over yet.

Why Mike York thinks Rockstar could delay GTA 6 again

York spent five years at Rockstar, working as a senior animator on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 before leaving in 2017. He now works at Seattle-based developer Highwire Games.
