A Glee reboot has moved beyond casual discussion and into slightly more concrete territory: co-creator Ryan Murphy says he has finished a script. Around 10 members of the original cast are also reportedly enthusiastic about returning, which is encouraging, though still some distance from cameras rolling.

The musical comedy last aired in March 2015. During its run, it became known for elaborate cover performances, a cast that produced several major stars and storylines that treated ordinary school policies as optional reading.

What did Ryan Murphy say about the new script?

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Murphy was asked what a new version of Glee might look like. His answer suggested the project had made very recent progress.

“Well, funny you ask, cause I just finished the script an hour ago,” he said. “So yeah, we have a script.”

Murphy also said “around ten of the original cast members” were highly “enthusiastic” about the idea. He did not identify which actors had expressed interest, what roles they might play or whether the planned production would continue the original story or introduce a mostly new group of students.

That leaves plenty of room for speculation about familiar faces returning to the choir room, assuming the building has survived another decade of unusually permissive supervision.

Is the Glee revival officially happening?

Not yet. A completed script is a meaningful step, but it does not mean a series has been ordered. Murphy did not announce a network, streaming service, production schedule or release date.

The project may still need to be pitched, financed and approved before casting agreements and filming plans can begin. Enthusiasm from former cast members is not the same as signed contracts, either, especially when schedules, budgets and the proposed story remain unknown.

For now, the confirmed details are limited but clear:

  • Murphy says the script is finished.
  • About 10 original cast members have shown strong interest.
  • No broadcaster or streaming platform has been confirmed.
  • No production or release timetable has been announced.

So the revival is possible, not inevitable. Still, after more than 11 years away from television, Glee is closer to returning than it was when the reboot existed only as an idea. Whether it reaches screens now depends on the less musical business of approvals, contracts and financing.
