Brazilian TikToker Duda Alves has died aged 22, days after posting videos about a painful recovery from breast-reduction surgery. No official cause of death has been released, and authorities have not established any connection between the procedure and her death.

Maria Eduarda Alves dos Santos, known online as Duda Alves, had built an audience of more than 750,000 TikTok followers and collected 27 million likes. Her account featured humorous observations about everyday life, including a recurring series devoted to things she disliked. The format was simple, direct and evidently very effective.

Alves died on September 13, according to People. Her family announced the news publicly two days later, when a wake was held at São João Paulo II Parish in Brasília. Brazilian outlet UOL reported that the family had not disclosed her cause of death.

What did Duda Alves say about her surgery recovery?

In the weeks before her death, Alves used TikTok to document her recovery from breast-reduction surgery. UOL reported that she chose the procedure because she experienced discomfort in workout clothes and felt her breasts were disproportionate to her body.

Her later posts covered the physical recovery and comments from viewers about the change in her appearance. Inevitably, some strangers online also decided her medical decision required their personal approval.

In a video posted on September 8, Alves said roughly three weeks had passed since the operation. She described being in “a lot of pain” and said she had been vomiting frequently. She also told followers that the pain had left her crying during the recovery process.

Her final TikTok appeared on September 9. In it, Alves responded to criticism from men who questioned why she had undergone the operation. She said she had made the choice for both comfort and aesthetic reasons.

Is her death being investigated?

The Civil Police of Brazil’s Federal District are investigating Alves’ death, according to People. Police declined to provide further information, citing the family’s privacy.

Authorities have not publicly identified a cause of death. There is also no confirmed evidence that her surgery, the symptoms she described or any related complication caused her death. The timing has prompted attention online, but chronology is not a medical finding, however confidently social media may treat it as one.

Friends and relatives have shared tributes following the announcement. Alves’ cousin, Geovana Alves, remembered years filled with laughter, trips, conversations and plans they had made together. During remarks at the wake, Alves’ father thanked the people who had supported his daughter.

Other influencer deaths involving cosmetic procedures

Alves’ death follows several recent cases in which online creators died around the time of cosmetic or elective procedures. Unlike Alves’ case, where no link has been established, some earlier deaths were reported as involving surgical complications.

Olivia Oras, 27, died following complications during a cosmetic procedure. Influencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo also died after undergoing a penis-enlargement procedure.

Those cases have renewed scrutiny of the risks attached to elective surgery and the way medical recoveries are presented online. For now, however, the circumstances surrounding Alves’ death remain under investigation, and any claim that her breast-reduction operation caused it goes beyond the facts released by police and her family.
