Amanda Seyfried says the Amanda Seyfried Charlie Kirk backlash became serious enough that she ended up with a bodyguard at the airport, after she made one blunt Instagram comment and conservative social media piled on. The actor revisited the episode in a recent British GQ profile, describing how quickly an online opinion turned into a real-world security concern.

Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative activist, was shot in the neck and killed on Sept. 10 during a college speaking event in Utah. Soon after his death, Seyfried commented, "He was hateful."

a short statement that set off outrage among many conservatives online, with critics accusing her of suggesting that Kirk’s killing was justified. Seyfried has repeatedly rejected that reading, saying she criticized Kirk’s rhetoric but did not condone violence.
