Tom Cruise says he would make a movie with Taylor Swift — and he thinks she could direct it. The actor’s enthusiasm is clear, though there is no announced project bringing the two together.
Speaking at the London premiere of Digger on September 22, Cruise was asked about working with Swift. He praised her work behind the camera and suggested that directing music videos could lead to a feature film.
Cruise sees a feature film in Swift’s future
“If she ever decided to direct, she could be a director of feature films,” Cruise said. “I know she does her videos and she does a beautiful job.”
Asked about working with her himself, he was equally receptive: “It would be amazing to work with her on anything.”
Those comments are an endorsement, rather than news of a casting decision. Cruise did not identify a script, a production or any plans for the pair to collaborate.
Swift already has directing experience
Swift has directed projects for her own music, including All Too Well: The Short Film.
A feature starring Cruise would be a different undertaking. The idea is compelling because it places an established film star inside a project shaped by an artist best known for music, but the available remarks say nothing about what such a film would be.
In my view, Cruise’s comments are most interesting as a vote of confidence in Swift’s directing, rather than a hint that a movie is on its way. He pointed to work she has actually made; the leap from that work to directing him in a feature remains hypothetical.
For now, the prospect rests on a straightforward exchange: Cruise says he would welcome the collaboration, and no collaboration has been announced. Swift would have to decide whether to make the film before anyone could decide what part he might play in it.
