Mamdani was not formally announcing anything about the couple. He was talking about New York’s ability to handle major events, specifically the New York Knicks’ Victory Parade scheduled for June 18. Still, one line landed hard.

In a clip that circulated widely on Swift fan accounts, Mamdani said the city was prepared for a crowded stretch of major gatherings. He listed several events together, including the Knicks’ postseason celebration, July 4, America 250, and Swift’s wedding.
“We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one,” he said. “We know it coincides with the Knicks finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding — all happening at the same time — and we are so excited to welcome the world here.”
That wording naturally set off the Swiftie alarm system, which is less a fandom than a global intelligence operation with better merch.
Why New York was already in the rumor mix
The mayor’s comment landed because it matched reporting that had already been circulating. In April, Page Six reported that Swift and Kelce were expected to marry in New York over Fourth of July weekend.
The same outlet also warned readers not to get too comfortable with the details. According to its reporting, a source claimed the date being discussed publicly was not accurate and suggested the couple may be enjoying the spread of false rumors in the media.
Still, Page Six and TMZ have continued to point toward the same broad timeline. Both outlets have reported that the ceremony could take place at Madison Square Garden, the famed Manhattan venue better known for concerts, sports, and the occasional extremely expensive beverage.
What Swift and Kelce have actually confirmed
So far, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have not commented publicly on the wedding rumors, including the location, date, or venue. That silence is not exactly shocking. Swift has kept her private life private for years.
Kelce, meanwhile, has also not offered any confirmation. Until either of them says something directly, the reports remain reports, even when the mayor of the largest city in the United States seems to casually place their wedding into a municipal events forecast.

For now, the wedding remains unconfirmed by the two people whose answer matters most. New York may be preparing for a very busy holiday stretch. Swift and Kelce may be planning something there. Or everyone may be giving a rumor in a tuxedo.
