A Ricky Martin concert in Montenegro came to a sudden stop on May 21 after an attendee sprayed tear gas near the stage, forcing the singer and his team to leave the performance area while security responded.
The incident happened during the first stop of the European leg of the Ricky Martin Live tour. Martin, 54, was escorted away as a precaution, according to his publicist, Róndine Alcalá, who later addressed the situation in a statement shared on Instagram.

Alcalá said Martin and his crew acted quickly once the irritant was released near the stage.
“As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage,” she wrote, “while security personnel [and] local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance.”
That is the sort of sentence no publicist wants to write after opening night. Still, the response appears to have been swift, with local authorities and venue security moving to control the area and assess whether the audience could safely remain.
No further details were provided in the statement about the attendee accused of deploying the tear gas or whether anyone was injured.
The show resumed after authorities cleared the venue
According to Alcalá, Martin’s team advised him not to continue the concert after the disruption. He chose otherwise once officials determined the situation was under control.
“Although members of the artist’s team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfill his commitment to his fans,” she said.
The statement added that Martin was “safe and grateful for the support and concern.”
The Montenegro performance was the launch of the European stretch of Ricky Martin Live, which is scheduled to run through the summer. After the incident, Alcalá said the tour would continue as planned.
Family life makes tour safety more personal
The security scare also lands differently because Martin has often traveled with his children while working. The singer is a father to four children: Matteo, 17, Valentino, 17, Lucia, 7, and Renn, 6.
That means touring is not only a professional operation for him, but also a family logistics project with real safety concerns attached. In a March 2020 interview with E! News, Martin described the challenge of bringing his children on the road.
“It is difficult,” he said at the time. “You have to think about four extra people coming with you everywhere and car seats and bags and luggage. It's a lot, but it's ok...My kids love being on the road.”
