A real Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is scheduled to open at American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in 2027. The permanent venue will turn the central setting of Five Nights at Freddy’s into a functioning restaurant with arcade games, animatronic performances and multiplayer survival-horror experiences. Apparently, watching fictional restaurants fail every imaginable safety inspection was not enough.
American Dream announced the project on August 9, 2026, around the franchise’s 12th anniversary. ScottGames, the company connected to creator Scott Cawthon and the rights holder behind the series, is collaborating on the attraction.
No exact opening date has been announced. American Dream has also not disclosed where the restaurant will sit inside the complex, who will operate it, what the menu will include, how admission will work or what any of it will cost.
What will visitors find inside the restaurant?
The venue is being described as the world’s first permanent immersive restaurant based on the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe. Unlike a temporary promotional installation, it is intended to operate as a full-scale, quick-service dining and entertainment destination.
Plans currently include two main animatronic performance areas:
- The Main Stage, featuring Freddy Fazbear and the Fazbear Band
- Pirate Cove, built around Foxy the Pirate
Visitors will also be able to play arcade games, including recreations of machines seen in the video games. American Dream clarified that detail on social media after the initial announcement.
The multiplayer horror experiences are expected to draw more directly from the games’ survival mechanics, although their format remains unclear. American Dream has not said whether those sections will require separate tickets, have age restrictions or operate independently from the restaurant and stage shows.
That distinction may matter. Pizza, arcade cabinets and singing mascots can serve families during the day. Survival horror generally requires a slightly different mood, preferably one without a child’s birthday party taking place three metres away.
The creative team says this is not just a themed set
Atreyu Alcantar, the attraction’s creative lead, said the goal is to build a convincing version of the fictional venue rather than place familiar characters around an ordinary restaurant.
“We’re not building a set that looks like Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, we’re building Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza,” Alcantar said.
Alcantar’s background makes him an unusually appropriate choice for the job. Biographical material from San Japan and his professional profile identify him with game developer Steel Wool Studios and describe his work as a fabricator, creature designer and animatronic engineer. He previously gained attention as a fan cosplayer before working officially on franchise-related creations.
Some early reports identified Alcantar as an American Dream licensing executive, but available professional biographies do not confirm that corporate title. His role as creative lead on the restaurant project, however, has been presented as part of the announcement.
Authenticity will be a significant test. Fans have spent years examining the fictional restaurant’s stages, corridors, security rooms and arcade machines for clues. A generic family restaurant with Freddy placed near the entrance would probably be noticed rather quickly.
Why American Dream is hosting the project
American Dream is not a conventional shopping centre with one arcade beside a food court. The complex covers more than 3 million square feet and already combines retail with large ticketed attractions, including DreamWorks Water Park, Nickelodeon Universe, Big SNOW, LEGOLAND Discovery Center and SEA LIFE Aquarium.
That makes Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza part of a broader destination-entertainment strategy. Shopping centres have increasingly turned to experiences that cannot be delivered in a parcel, and a permanent recreation of a famous horror-game location is certainly difficult to fit through a letterbox.
Fans had already suspected American Dream was involved before the formal announcement. Online investigators compared a pizza-themed teaser from ScottGames with American Dream’s floor plan and identified apparent similarities. The official confirmation rewarded that detective work while also demonstrating that Five Nights at Freddy’s fans will inspect almost anything for hidden meaning.
The project also goes beyond earlier temporary franchise attractions, including a Freddy Fazbear-themed experience at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. Game Rant reported that the New Jersey venue is planned as a permanent “functional reimagining,” not a limited-time promotion.
How the fictional pizzeria became a real business
Scott Cawthon’s original Five Nights at Freddy’s game arrived in August 2014, with its Steam release following on August 18. Players took the role of a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where animatronic characters entertained children during the day and became dangerously mobile after closing.
The player had to monitor security cameras, operate doors and conserve limited electrical power while surviving five night shifts. It was a simple setup, but the game’s jump scares, hidden story and deliberately incomplete explanations helped create one of modern gaming’s most recognisable horror franchises.
The property expanded through sequels, spin-offs, novels, graphic novels and films. Scholastic and ScottGames announced a multi-book publishing agreement in 2016, extending the restaurant’s increasingly complicated mythology beyond the games.
The 2023 Five Nights at Freddy’s film, produced by Blumhouse and distributed by Universal Pictures, brought the premise to a wider audience. It followed a security guard who discovered that an abandoned family restaurant was haunted by murderous animatronics. The production also recreated the characters as physical performers, offering a useful preview of how important convincing machinery will be to the permanent attraction.
Can family dining and survival horror coexist?
The central operational challenge is not difficult to identify. In the story, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is associated with disappearances, haunted machinery and exceptionally poor overnight staffing decisions. In New Jersey, it must function as a safe, high-capacity public venue serving food to families.
The design will therefore need to balance two audiences. Casual visitors may want pizza, arcade games and an animatronic concert. Longtime fans may expect darker environments, detailed references and an experience closer to hiding from hostile mascots in a security office.
Online reaction has reflected that split. Fans on Reddit have expressed excitement and called for more locations, while others have raised concerns about security, vandalism, overcrowding and whether the horror element could limit repeat family visits. Those are reasonable questions for a venue based on a franchise where the mascots are famous mainly for not remaining where staff left them.
For now, the 2027 opening window is the only timing available. Until American Dream reveals the menu, pricing, ticket structure and precise location, the project remains an unusually detailed promise rather than a restaurant ready for reservations.
If it opens as planned, visitors will finally be able to meet Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy somewhere other than a screen. The pizza will be real, the animatronics will perform on stage and, one assumes, the night shift will remain optional.
