Natalie Harp’s letters to Trump offer an unusually personal look at the relationship between President Donald Trump and one of his closest aides. In the two messages, Harp apologised repeatedly, worried that she had disappointed him and declared that he was “all that matters” to her. It was not standard office correspondence.
The Daily Beast published both letters in full on Thursday night. Harp, Trump’s special assistant, wrote them during or after his May 2023 visit to golf courses in Scotland and Ireland.
Why did Harp apologise to Trump?
In the first letter, Harp said she feared she had upset Trump during the overseas trip. She described being left at an airport the previous night and panicking while alone in a van at Customs without her passport.
Rather than contacting the Secret Service, Harp called Trump directly. She later admitted that she should have handled the situation through his security detail.
Harp also apologised for walking onto the golf course instead of travelling in a cart. She asked Trump to “please forgive me” if she had caused any other problems.
