Jalen Brunson ended the Elmo feud in the most New York way available: from a championship parade float, with the NBA trophy nearby and a repentant red puppet in hand.

At the New York Knicks’ official ticker-tape parade on Thursday, Variety captured the team captain holding up and kissing an Elmo plush. The toy came with a cardboard sign that read, “Forgive me PLEASE,” which is about as close as a public apology gets when one party is made of felt.

Why Knicks fans turned on Elmo

The trouble started earlier this month, when Elmo’s official social media account posted a cheerful message during the NBA playoff series between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.
